Changing jobs: I close one door and open another

Unread postby Specop_007 » Wed 04 Feb 2009, 12:48:42

I volunteered to be laid off this morning. We have layoffs coming and rather then sit around wondering if I'm going to have a job or not I've decided to consider this an opportunity rather then an obstacle and forge my own way rather then let it be chosen for me.

I should be gone within a month or so. I'm no dummy though and no this is a tough market to find a job in. As such a few weeks ago I put out a few leads. Well, one of them bit. And boy did I land a big fish with it.

So I willing close one door and open another. I'm excited about the new gig and really look forward to getting onboard. Its a once in a lifetime opportunity close to home with skys the limit pay. I just have to come in and perform. I wish I could say I'll miss where I'm at but frankly aside from missing a few people I work with theres nothing here for me. The corporate world has sucked the "care" right out of me. You can only sit around being viewed as a value adding liability so long before you just start to not care any more.

I'm ready to start the next chapter in the book so to speak, thats for damn sure. 8)

Good luck with the new gig, Specop.

Finding an even better job is excellent timing in this tough economy. :)

All the best of luck, man.

I've been eyeing the "information technology warfare" positions that the DoD has been posting lately. The evil genius in me reared its ugly head when I read those.

Yeah, I have no illusions about how lucky I am. Hell, even in the best of times I would be blessed to have been offered something like this.

During times likes this? Wow. Its amazing.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'D')o I get your fancy guns at a discount now?

It's kind of ironic that an intelligent, restrained, and observant liberal like myself should own the arsenal after the overspent republican has consumed himself into a big black hole.

2nd paragraph in my first post. :)

The CEO offered the use of his lake house to me and my family till we get a house purchased ourselves. I figure I'd be 4-6 years out from a nice Porsche or Aston Martin if it wasnt for the kids. Instead I'll pay for the kids to do as they please, be it start their own business or go to whatever educational institution they wish.

A long time ago I said theres 2 paths in the future. One is to be slowly ground down by ever rising prices and dimishing availibility of goods, the other is to rise up above it all.

I cant say for sure, but I may have just rose up above it all. Or at least been given the means with which to do so.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'L')ake House huh? Boat Boy. Sailors hat. Fun stuff.

"Oh Spec, do bring me a Pims my boy? Yes, yes I'll want that in your little bosun's outfit. Cute as a puppy"

Of course not, he wont be there. Why on earth would he want to be there is we were too??

Course, I'd be more the happy to pay you a competitive wage to keep the boat by the dock and my drink full if you'd like. :)
