I never used it because I am anxious that governments or private companies could misuse the data given.

Yup, have one. Don't use it except as a family message bulletin board. Almost all my extended family lives in or near Portland.

Thanks for the shout out, Tyler. The group is pretty much dormant, as are most Facebook groups, but we can definitely spice it up if we want to.

I've joined.

I don't use facebook much, it's nowhere near as cool as a lot of people seem to think. Or am I just a luddite?

Already friends with the guard dog, it's amazing how compliant they are when offered the liver of a zombie. :)

Thanks for that. Most facebook groups are a bit lame, nothing seems to happen and it's difficult to try and have interesting discussions.

I have a facebook. It's been a place to reconnect with old high school friends and post embarassing high school pictures. I'm not sure it's a good thing overall.

Yes, if only there were a place to have discussions about Peak Oil and its ramifications. The only thing that I can imagine it being good for is to be able to teach other people about PO and thus serve the BIC corporation (by bringing them here), rather than FB.

I have one, but hardly ever use it. Sometimes my AIM is done so I use it. Or it's easier to use than email. Photos, status, groups etc. are just lame.

I don't use it (or any other social networking sites) because it's just a huge data mining operation for corporations and the government.

Indeed. I've heard that the owner of FB has some pretty odious beliefs. I've already left twice...

And with that information they will do...what?

Find out where I live? I believe they already know that.

Try to sell me tickets to my favorite bands or their new CDs? It would save me the hassle of having to look for them.

There's nothing I post on my facebook that is damaging to me personally or a breach of my privacy. I put that information online because I want other people to see it. Isn't that why these websites exist in the first place? I want my friends to find out what I like so that I can find people with similar interests.

The reason I hate the advertisement industry is that they are constantly trying to sell me junk I don't want and will never want. Advertisement of junk products/services wastes my time and fills up my mailbox.

At the same time, I don't live on a doomstead. I need to purchase products and services to survive. I would strongly prefer a world in which corporations already knew what I wanted. It would save me time and allow me to make much better decisions.

I fully agree Amazon has already figured out that based on my past purchases I'm a doomer so every now and then I get an email recommending books on survival gardening, doomer porm. canning/food storage... Basically your standard doomer library recommendations. Way better then getting opra book of the month recommendations. If TV would just advertise things specifically for me maybe I wouldn't download the episodes with the commercials removed rather then watch them on tv.

As for the face book page yeah I have one but although I'm not huge into hiding my identity I haven't decided to link my actual name and pictures of my entire family to strider3700. Most anyone that knows me can find me online of course but people that know me online have to work at it at least a little bit to find my address.
