$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jasonraymondson', 'P')ops use to get a lot of respect on here, but nowadays nobody pays attention to his old ass.

That's because Pops has made his move to the country, has real world experience living a life that he considers to be his preps and can give advise based on it. I'd like to think I know pops well enough by now to point out that even he'd admit his life is pretty boring compared to anything promoted by armed to the teeth doomers or pure techno fix Cornucopians. He's fled the cities but isn't in some doomstead 100 miles from the nearest neighbour. Hell I remember a nice thread with him a few years back about the value of clothes lines. It's not overly shocking he's ignored. Noone likes there fantasies being destroyed by little things like reality.

What a waste of time glorifying in who is the biggest doomer. We are all the biggest because we are all going to die! Now doesn't that about sum it up for a real doomer's perspective?
When it comes down to it, the people will always shout, "Free Barabbas." They love Barabbas. He's one of them. He has the same dreams. He does what they wish they could do. That other guy is more removed, more inscrutable. He makes them think. "Crucify him."

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('davep', 'I') quit my job, sold my house and moved to the countryside. It's great. This is a life I'd like to lead without peak oil. The guns etc are an insurance policy, nothing more. I don't spend my days stroking them. Well, not every day.
After 18 months of preps, my money ran out, Being poor sucks (but being at home and prepping is good for your love life). So I got a job. I'm probably earning more than 95% of the posters here.
So, it's not a black and white scenario.
I travel over 1000km to and from work every weekend. I'd rather not, but it pays the bills. Ive also recently had a holiday in Africa. I'm planning for us to go to an extravagant spa resort for my wife's birthday. Etc... Prepping and living your life are not mutually incompatible. crap, enjoy it while you can. But also enjoy transitioning. Otherwise others will eventually enjoy you working for them as they transition.
Edit: I know I'm lucky. I'm not saying that we can all do what I do. But I do have to take a lot of stress and travelling to get where I want to.

I also live in the country, off a side raod actually. I own acres of land, by a lake and guns are an insurance. I can't tell, but I probably stand in the top as far as income goes. My only real goal in the near future is to pay off my mortgage.

I'm nejoying life to its fullest, specially with the kids. I'm preparing for the them more than anything really. I haven't given up anything substantial though, my lifestyle is what I'd prefer peakoil or not.

I have split away the posts regarding suicide; this is a very touchy topic because many people have difficulty discussing the general idea.
Please do not reintroduce it. Thank you.

Split away - delete or to another thread?

If people are to conquer their fears they must first face it. I didn't see much that was posted that should be offensive.

What happened to the right of expression anyhow?

Bullshit. It was an immature idiot trying to be provocative or edgy.

When you've lost a child you know all about conquering fear. That's one of the few silver linings I can think of (along with calling into question your lifestyle, and changing for the better).

Don't mistake his crap for some kind of insight.

Never said he or she had insight.

But I do wonder if you agree that dommers are those with nearly no hope, and if you don't have hope then whatever you do is for nothing.

Doomers make me laugh; specially when they get offended by someone pointing out the obvious.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'I') just never see these assholes in real life. I must live in an asshole-light area. I know they must be out there, I just never encounter them. Of course it helps that I don't go into town much. :)

I was exagerating a bit. Knew i would get a rise out of you! ;-) I know there are not that many assholes. Could be alot more. But Have a feeling there will be a land o plenty of them when the going gets rough. Not the same society as 20-30 years ago.

Sorry about stepping over the line from mere doomerism to the "s"-word.
