As a member of the loyal opposition, it was an awesome speech! A speech that made you proud to be an American!

Good Luck and God Bless Mr. President!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Serial_Worrier', 'I') think the whole thing was deliberately designed to drive conservatives apeshit and it's succeeding. The libs are pouring $140 million into this "dear leader" annointment, it's sickening.

I'll never understand this. You seem to also think Bush was conservative then? Bush should drive conservatives crazy more than Obama even. Bush was the biggest spender, government builder, attacker of personal liberties that we have had in generations.

Obama is going to do nothing more than continue the policies of George Bush. It is just more of the same that we got under your beloved George Bush. So you should love it!

It was a good speech. I admit I got choked up a couple times. I also admit I winced during the cornucopian bits.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Plantagenet', '
')At least in sports the announcers make a show of being even-handed and analytical. The national mainstream media people at the coronation all sound like giddy schoolgirls.

That's exactly what I thought while I listened to NPR the last two days. They were literally giggly. It made me throw up a little in my mouth.

Give me a break. Do you cry during feminine hygiene commercials?

That was the worst pandering disingenuous tripe. Bunch of star-spangled bulls_t.

Ahhhh...... Let me enjoy the moment.

Tomorrow rhetoric is introduced to mathematics and ideals meet reality. But at least for today we can hope! ;)

Hrrmm. Normally when I feel like some temporary hope I'm drinking a bottle of vodka/rum and howling to Willie Nelson or Hank Williams Sr records.

Great speech.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')merica. In the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.

The speech was moving only towards those who do not know what is going on.

For the rest of us it was a steaming pile of Dogsh!t. It was laced with cliche and emotion and included little substance. I expect very little else from this man as president. While I give him the benefit of the doubt, I see bad things happening and he will not have the experience, nor the leadership to stop them no matter how well he speaks.

For the record, taxpayers are paying for security and transportation. The actual "party" is being paid for by donations.
And Bush declared a state of emergency authorizing D. C. to recoup some of the costs of the event.

It wasn't clear to me whether taxpayers are paying for the port-a-johns, or whether the commmitte paid for it with donations. Either way, I'm okay with it. We can't have that stuff in the streets, can we?

My thoughts exactly. :)

The inauguration is mindless babble but it's all the sheeple want to hear. I've gotten into a lot of sh*t already today for talking down about the speech.

Now I'm just keeping my mouth shut.

At least the post election honeymoon will buy us a little more time.

Amazing that AP and Tyler could put down this speech. I mean, c'mon, the guy compared our current situation to the Revolutionary war. You do have any idea what the odds were that the Americans defeated the British. I guarantee they would have been a 1000:1. Is that what the sheeple (cliche and overused word on this site to make you feel superior in knowledge of the overlords) want to hear? That they are going to die crossing a freezing river and they have one shot in a thousand of making it through?

Listening to Obama the past couple of years, I am sure of one thing -- that he knows the score and has a better idea of the future than probably anybody on this board.

Oh year, Tyler, universities are staunchly liberal and if you want to be successful in that setting you better sell out.

A better idea of the future. Right. That's why he's going to plow hundreds of billions into crooked banks and make-work highway programs.

Fiat money and highways. Barry valiantly channeled Lincoln but we ended up with Eisenhower...
