You know Obama is beginning to sound an awful lot like the anti-christ, rather than just a hand puppet.

Obama has *earned* it? How in the world do you *earn* the right to spend $150 million of taxypayer money? Yes, some of it is coming from private donations, but the lion's share is at taxypayer expense.

I think it shows extremely poor form to start off a presidency based on restoring hope (ick) by spending such fantastic sums of money.

Let's not forget, a million here and a million there, pretty soon, you're talking about real money.

Like the original poster said, I've had enough, too. I'll keep the TV turned off for the next few days. Obama's star-crazed followers are too upsetting to watch.

America really is beginning to look like some African despotic state with its elaborate coronation ceremonies while the rest of the country collapses. Lesotho and Zimbabwe springto mind.

From LINK $this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'E')stimated cost to build one 5 MW onshore wind turbine: $5,120,000

I have no problem with the Inauguration being a big bash, in fact my ex wife and I were hoping to attend and had made plans to do so in December 2007. The problem I have is, they could spend $50,000,000.00 and still have one heck of a great party which would leave the other $100,000,000.00 to do something that lasts a lot more than one day, like for example making a $5,000,000.00 down payment on 20 five MWe wind turbines. Or put it into Arctic glacier research to figure out what is really going on with the sea ice. Or put it in the fund for developing a cure for AIDS. I know its only about 0.33 Cents per American citizen, but there are so many better uses it could be put too.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Alfred Tennyson', 'W')e are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Same. SB is in two weeks. Turn on for about four hours and then it's off. After I graduate, I doubt I'll even buy a TV. I was given a decent one a few years ago but gave it away for nothing in return (not even good graces).

"Irrational exuberance"

Haven't you all learned how to spot bubbles yet. You have lived through the dot com bubble, the housing bubble and now you are seeing a bubble in the body politic.

The Obama bubble will burst too. Of course the mainstream media will not tell you this. Obama is too big to fail. Dissent will not be tolerated. Opposition, when all else fails, will be labeled rascist.

The emperor has no clothes........you just have to open your eyes and look.

I doubt the second coming of Jesus Christ will get as much network coverage as the [s]inauguration[/s] coronation of Mr. Obama. For a down-to-earth basketball hoop tossin', cigarette smokin' type of guy he is coming across as if he was an emperor or something like it.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', ' ')This is not much different than NASCAR or professional figure skating, is it?

At least in sports the announcers make a show of being even-handed and analytical. The national mainstream media people at the coronation all sound like giddy schoolgirls.

Well, of course. It's called a honeymoon period. This is an extreme, all-American OTT five ring circus honeymoon, but these are very extreme times, with a lot of people genuinely scared about what the next few years will bring- nevertheless, the condition itself is not unique to this election or indeed to the US. Newly elected leaders, especially ones that seem to represent change after a govt has become unpopular(think Tony Blair in '97 in the UK, or Reagan in 1980)are usually greeted with near adulation and enjoy a period where they can do no wrong. Political BAU(bullsh#t as usual), but with a tangy little whiff of hysteria and a last days of Rome vibe to suit the current times.

No doubt the backlash, when all the hot air and hoopla has cooled down and it becomes apparent that the recession/depression will not be turned around with a magic obama wand, will be correspondingly extreme. It will be interesting to see how long that process takes.

I don't think so. You literally have millions of people who see this coronation as a personal validation, including many white liberals. They will forgive anything Emperor Obama does. And don't think for a second this is not an imperial Presidency from Jan 20th 2009.

You mean like how all the white conservatives forgave Bush over the past eight years? Actually, they didn't forgive they just turned their head and looked the other way.

Bush was no conservative. His legacy is Obama. He is not forgiven.

Glad to see that others are not buying into this dear leader 150 million dollar waste of money.

I agree 100% that Obama is going to set up an Imperial presidency.
