Yeah... I've been reading a lot about this crap lately. The "paper" price isn't coming over to the physical yet. Buying silver for anywhere near spot is the holy grail.

Apmex wants $15.36 for ASE right now... Spot is what...low $11's?

I'm not a silver guy, but doesn't this . . .
"BID NOW! WITHOUT EBAY YOU CAN NOT EVEN GET ONE OF THESE."

. . . imply that there's some sort of "collector" value?

I'm kicking myself for choosing the 12 month rather than the 6 month CD.

I have some cash frozen in a CD at my local bank earning 4.3% annual interest which is great for cash but I want to move it into silver.

I have a little paper silver purchased at $12.70 and below $11.25, it's a screaming buy!

Unfortunately, I won't have access to the CD's money until January...at which point silver will be back in the $14-$15 range or higher and I'll have missed out on a major opportunity.

Oh well, it's just money.

Pay the three month interest penalty and just buy the silver. That's what I did in early july. 8O

But it's a real freaking hassle.

Plus, if I'm wrong, and silver keeps falling I'll be out the interest in addition to my losses. (Just like what happened to you)

I'm better off taking the guaranteed return and then reassessing myself in the winter.

A very good lesson for everyone... but I have to keep learning it because [s]I'm not all that clever about money matters[/s] I get lucky once in awhile.

Are US eBay sales changing?

Unread postby Don35 » Sat 13 Dec 2008, 11:38:14

I'm selling a bunch of my stuff on eBay lately. I'm thinking I don't need the stuff and should sell while I still can. On a large number of my auctions I get questions from international bidders even though I request US bidders only. Italy, France, Russia, Japan. I've NEVER had international bidders on my auctions. What's going on? Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it the devaluation of the dollar making great deals for foreigners? Is it the future for our goods and wealth (ha!) to go overseas? All comments are appreciated.

They are scammers.

They will buy your item, then create a problem (wasn't as described, international taxes, etc.) in hopes of either:

- catching you in a phishing scam with bogus Ebay "please respond" emails, or

- feedback extortion where they threaten negative feedback unless you send them money.

No legitimate buyer would ignore your specification about US buyers only.

1. USD is still strong, in fact too strong. So, not due to recent slight re-correction of USD index

2. Foreign buyers are in fact less prone to rip you off (this is evident in all the financial transaction data, whether from PayPal, VISA, Mastercard or eBay), as long as you exclude some of the very poorest/highest crime countries (like former soviet block).

Why is it increasing now?

I have no idea.

What I can tell you that I don't understand people who are not willing to sell outside USA.

They are limiting their buyer audience, their upside potential and their own revenues due to this.

Stupid by any economic measure, but hey leaves so much more extra trades for me, when I don't have to compete with US sellers :)

Let's see: strong dollar? Right now on ebay.com I could buy an Apple Powerbook G4 for around 300 USDollars. That comes to roughly 190 Euros. It's a STEAL I'm loooking for one to add to the family, new is near 2,000 Euros- more than twice most people's monthly wage, so I am seriously considering bidding/buying. On my local ebay site there's a similar model already bid to over 300 Euros and three days left, so you can imagine what price these things fetch.

Likewise games for my daughter's Nintendo DS often work out one third of the price in the shops here, even adding shipping costs. You must bear in mind the higher cost of living over here, think what we pay for a tank of gas!

Run! tell them to "f u c k off" seriously that is how I would put it too.

I made the mistake of selling something to some bastard in Canada well there was no way to track delivery and guess what? he said he never got.

Ebay is terrible in my opinion it is only good for certain things.

You could always ship FedEx Ground or UPS if you want tracking, yeah, neither canada post nor USPS for some reason offer cross border tracking (you'd figure they'd be able to interconnect their systems), but there are a lot of other ways to send things.

As for the other guy not getting the stuff? I had that happen WITHIN Canada where letters went AWOL for weeks or a package went into a black hole. Happens, doesn't mean the guy didn't rip you off, but unless you know he got it, it doesn't prove he ripped you off either.

Tis true, but that has been my experience with ebay I have been ripped off more than I care to admit on the seller side. People are always working angles and scams.
