Re: AMERICA'S PERFECT STORM: WHAT WILL YOU DO WHEN IT HITS?

Unread postby Pops » Mon 01 Dec 2008, 23:58:38

Is all this foolishness necessary in the original serious PO forum?

Say simply what you have done to prepare and what you will do as in patience's example.

If you have done neither then put your photos on your wall and throw darts or post them in the Open forum but don't plug up what should be a serious forum.
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.

I think mos just presented most of the psychological archetypes of the po.com users. Great thing :-)

I loved mos's post. It should be put in some kind of a thread of it's own called peak oil character types. Fun! I see myself as an amalgam of all those types, with the possible exception of Hannibal Lector.

That's a good idea. Hey mos, whadda ya think? This could be fun. Instead of putting them here, get a po.com character thread started.

I think this thread is BRILLIANT on the part of Mos, and I would be in favor of it being made its own "Character Type" thread. However, I would NOT be in favor of this thread being placed in the Open forum which does not appear in the Last 24 Hours search. This marginalizes any thread. I would favor placing the split off thread into the Psychology Forum, where it will appear int he Last 24 Hours search. Or else start listing Open Forum posts in Last 24 hours.

I am pleased to see at least 2 of my favored Characters/Metaphors made it into Mos' pictorial listing, which BTW was wonderful work digging up all these photos on the net. Tom Joad from the "Grapes of Wrath" and Hawkeye from "The Last of the Mohicans" made the cut.

You missed the most important one of all far as I am concerned though Mos. The Pale Rider. The Preacher with a Gun. Also the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse would be a worthwhile inclusion in my estimation.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')nd I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

Image

Needed also are the Adolf Hitler image, the KKK White Hooded Cross Burner and of course the Peak Oil Goddess :-) Maybe Che Guevara is enough, but maybe we need Karl Marx and Adam Smith also? Also Forest Gump and Pollyanna. More than a few of those here as well.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he word cur appears to be colloquial in nature. In 1790, Thomas Bewick wrote:[3]$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he Cur Dog is a trusty and useful servant to the farmer and grazier; and, although it is not taken notice of by naturalists as a distinct race, yet it is now so generally used, especially in the North of England, and such great attention is paid in breeding it, that we cannot help considering it as a permanent kind. They are chiefly employed in driving cattle; in which way they are extremely useful. They are larger, stronger, and fiercer than the Shepherd's Dog; and their hair is smoother and shorter. They are mostly black and white colour. Their ears are half-pricked; and many of them are whelped with short tails, which seem as if they had been cut: These are called Self-tailed Dogs. They bite very keenly; and as they always make their attack at the heels, the cattle have no defence against them: In this way they are more than a match for a Bull, which they quickly compel to run. Their sagacity is uncommonly great. They know their master's fields, and are singularly attentive to the cattle that are in them: A good Dog watches, goes his rounds; and, if any strange cattle should happen to appear amongst the herd, although unbidden, he quickly flies at them, and with keen bites obliges them to depart.
