I guess in the future you could always say there wasn't enough wind to get to work.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('lorenzo', 'W')elcome from me too, Kiteship. Your work looks pretty impressive. How big are you planning to go? What kind of ships are you focussing on to kickstart widescale adoption of the technology?

Thanks. We'll go as large as it takes; we are prepared to build kites right now in the 10-15,000 sq ft range, and are quite prepared to engineer kites 2-4 times that size. It's only a matter of money and demand.

Cheers,

Dave

Would the upward pull from a kite increase stability? I’m thinking that if kites could result in a smoother more comfortable voyage, there could be a big market in the luxury cruise field.

Very much so, Omnitir. We've been writing about this for 10-12 years; others are just discovering it. Cruise line customers will enjoy both the smoother ride, and also the feeling that they are enjoying a "green" holiday. The cruise line operators will enjoy fuel savings, happier customers--and the elimination of the expensive requirement for their ships to have twin engines--a safety consideration, waived for sail-powered cruise ships.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Lehyina', 'T')hat could bring about a useful reduction in bunker fuel consumption.
Pity skysails aren't applicable to the automobile.
