What is really happening is a very impressive pattern shift. For the past month or so the east has been solidly below normal, while the west has been baking. In a span of about two days, there is going to be this flip where the west gets really cold and the east moderates. I have to think that at least part of the reason why Nat Gas futures just recently went below $6 is because the cold is progged to move away from the Eastern population centers.
Shanny,
Yeah, the GFS 3 or 4 days ago had a tremendous cold snap coming down in the central US and then moving over to the east. As we got closer, that solution really backed off. Now it looks like a 1-2 day cold shot along the eastern seaboard that isn't any colder than it is now after the storm on Thurs/Fri and then a nice warmup. Shows you the status of the 7+ day modeling still
