Damn, shot the mayor too. What an idiot.

Here's my encapsulation of that whole thing: A militant named John Brown, anti-slavery, did all kinds of raids, shot up gov't facilities, etc., and today hardly anyone remembers him. Meanwhile some busybody but a busybody who wrote darned well wrote a little book called Uncle Tom's Cabin. And that won/lost the Civil War. For better or worse. The Unibomber isn't going to be remembered all that well and would be almost forgotten now except for his Manifesto. And if he were a better writer, his little screed would be timeless, like Walden.

Except for the part at the very end, Revolutions are always better done in words than in violence.

Bump

Link

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')s he bounded out of through the church door just 20 minutes before Mass, the Rev. Bill Hegedusich was greeted by confused looks from his parishioners at St. Peter's on Capitol Hill. He offered them a simple explanation.

"I said, 'Hey, I'm going to go catch a thief,' " he said.

Then, in his black shirt and white clerical collar, Hegedusich, a marathon runner, darted after the man who had just swiped the church's collection money.

"It's not my typical Sunday morning, I'll tell you that," Hegedusich said.

But the OP asked about my part of the world...

Noticed this morning that a home that has been for sale for nearly a year had a window broken and plywood nailed up in its place... small town where the feed store keeps sacks of feed out on their stoop at night. Otherwise the paper was just full of the normal Underaged Drinking and DWI

We had another senseless crime around here the other day. A 44-year old father of 3 who was a hospice chaplain and youth minister was murdered after he picked up a man (age 20) and his girlfriend (age 29) on the road. When they arrived at the man's house, he went inside, came out with a knife and stabbed the minister. Then he ran him over with his own car.

Think that is bad enough? No, it gets worse.

Also living at the rental house where the stabbing took place were the girlfriend's mother and the girlfriend's 3 kids. They ALL watched the stabbing. Yes, the kiddies got to see a man of God get stabbed to death. Oh yes, it gets worse! Grandman, you see, couldn't be bothered to call the police. So the victim got up, tried to escape, was run over, and then lay in a ditch for hours until someone saw him and called for help. Grandma couldn't be bothered. She actually told police "I had 3 grandkids to take care of" as the reason she couldn't take 3 seconds to dial 911.

So who knows if the poor guy could have been helped or not.

So here you have a 20-year old unemployed roofer, his 29-year old girlfriend (unemployed fast food worker), her mother, and 3 kids living in a small rental place. The 29-year old was also cited for having Percocet (a narcotic) without a preccription. What a great family environment! They should charge Grandma and take those kids away forever. The motive was supposedly theft of the 2009 Toyota Corolla, wallet, etc from the victim.

So yet again, my lack of faith in humanity is confirmed. Not only is a chaplain killed, but someone who witnesses it can't even call for help!

WE ARE DOOMED...
