So far we've no immediate indication of any job problems. My wife and I are both in health care industry. Both of our companies are still growing, hers rapidly, mine moderately... certain industries improve in a downturn.
Our neighbors are all employed, though a few have lost their ability to get overtime. I hear of "friends of firends" losing their jobs, but my immediate circle are still employed.
My 401k is about half of what it was last year but I have 25 years before I plan on retiring, if ever. Either it will improve or die over the next couple of years and I've always considered it as one of many gambles. Some will work out, some will not. I'm glad I cashed out some of the riskier bets last summer and put it into preps; for that insight I have PeakOil.com to thank.
