$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('patience', 'F')act: We are in the midst of the greatest credit debacle in history.
Fact: The US govt and the FDIC have taken unprecedented actions to try and cope with this.
Fact: Some banks have failed anyway this year, one of them being a very large one. (Indymac)
Fact: Shenanigans were pulled with regard to Bear Stearns, to "prevent a meltdown", according to Bendover.
Do whatever you gotta do. My money AIN'T in a bank.

Remember those "hidden" places in those old desks and such.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Cashmere', 'I')'ve got a ton of money in this bank. There is no way of withdrawing it all.

Surely it is not the only bank you hold money in. Just like buying preps, stocks, etc...diversification is key.

Anything above the "insured" limits I would begin moving to other banks.

I would NOT cash out.

Cash, go here: FDIC Institute Directory and do a search on your bank's history.

This report: Agency's Head Expects Banking Crisis to Worsen
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')ndustrywide, bank earnings plunged 86 percent from April to June, to $4.96 billion, from $36.8 billion a year earlier, the agency said.
The F.D.I.C., which guarantees savings and checking deposits, also raised the number of banks on its list of problem lenders to 117, the most since mid-2003.
That is up from 90 at the end of the first quarter. The agency does not disclose which banks are on the list, but it said the troubled lenders had combined assets of about $78 billion.

.... should do NOTHING to settle your worries!

86% DECLINE in ONE quarter :!:

Thanks for the FDIC link, seems my bank is now in the foreclosure business. Acquired over 3000 mostly commercial real estate through foreclosure up from around 46 the year before. Should this worry me or do I just not understand the banking business?

Do yourself a favor and when you cash out... Get it in pennies and nickels... You'll make money on the deal! Have them throw in a few rolls of halves and for $hits and giggles, have them throw in a few dollar coins...

Anecdotally, I've actually heard that USAA is in pretty decent shape*, compared to most other banks...
