I think many of us have to be cautious about internet obsessions in general. For some folks, this means getting far too sucked into online games, for some folks it's forums and such.

We need to be especially careful with heavy involvement with a forum such as this, given the the potentially depressing subject matter. It's like the wall-to-wall news after 9/11.. it really didn't behoove people to watch it nonstop for days.

I know I've been posting quite a bit lately. I definitely feel the need to layoff for a while.. so here I am, posting about how I need to post less. ;)

I pretty much get instantly completely pissed off at people here and start cussing them out, so I'll probably go back to not posting.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('vision-master', 'T')hanks all for NOT saying; "don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out". That's what I figured the standard reply would be.

Don't let the door hit you in the @ss on your way out.

JUUUUST KIDDING!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I') do feel as if I've evolved spiritually since joining PO and emotionally am trying to ready myself the "big changes" on the horizon with mankind.

Same here. I've gone from 'Oh sh!t, the sky's falling tomorrow!!' to pretty much accepting that what will be, will be, and all I can do is my best to prepare and cope in whatever ways I'm able. This place has helped tremendously in that journey...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he day-to-day economy stuff here is boring me to death (yes it does suck). Also PO used to have better actual PO related stuff in days past. Those people have been more quite as of late.

Really tho' VM, what more is there to say with regard specifically to PO that hasn't already been said? Any more I see this forum mainly as a place to 'hang' with others who are at least cognizant of the major underlying factors driving the events we see unfolding around us, UNlike most of the people in my immediate environment. It's comforting I suppose to know that I'm not the only person on the planet who sees beyond the surface...

I spent a great deal more time here when I was first awakening to PO, and there are times when I feel the need to step away for a bit, but really, I don't think there's any other place on the web quite like this, not that I've found anyway. There are a great many intelligent, thoughtful people on this forum, and even with the diversity of opinions that we have, most are able to keep the conversations relatively civil, relevant and even humorous, if a little offbeat at times. Such an eclectic mix is a rare find methinks...

I spend a few hours a week on here collecting information, but I don't feel the desire to post about my own homestead. I suppose I'm selfish.

Ditto. There are hot button threads I just don't read anymore.

Without the long-term posters here making the case for peak oil and putting up with the inane questions by noobs like me, I would be as clueless as everyone else in society. Knowledge is power.

VM, honestly, you talk too much. Try listening instead of asking.

That's it, really.

As for roccman, isn't it uncanny that things really started to fly apart after he said he was bugging out?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('vision-master', 'T')hanx, I googled pharmacratic inquisition. Now that I've set up the big screen 37" LCD to my computer, I've been busy watching lot's of stuff on google-video lately. No more TV! I'll check it out.

VM I suggest you see the old movie first , you can download it here : The Pharmacratic Inquisition (2004)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Bas', 'I') miss the old days as well. I hang around a bit because I'm a mod but I do feel most about everything has been said and done.

+1, scenarios have been discussed, things are unraveling, and we are checking the details of what´s going on... that´s what I feel, still vision-master, don´t go away, let´s all see how things go a bit more

Anyone who was paying attention could see there was going to be some economic trouble coming. A deep recession isn't exactly the end of the world.......

Sheesh, just a little revisionist history here or what?

Not one goddamned thing flew apart after rocco left, in fact, it appears to be holding together nicely.

Even though I'm often ignored/not taken seriously, I still post anyway because it pushes me to do research to actually back up my ideas and make revisions when I'm proven wrong.

Actually, I have noticed that there seems to be a general feeling of ..what to call it?... dismay?...depression?... among many of the posters recently. I won't list them (posters) all here, but it is interesting that so many have come to the same conclusion when comparing the news/info, the interpetations of the news/info, and their real lives.
Is it because the majority of posters here are more self-aware than "the average" person?

Awareness can lead to depression and obsession. It can also lead to action. Like several posters here, when I realized that the free ride of oil was over, I worried about it. Now, I plan for it, as action tends to remove the depressive aspects of where we are going then simply posting about how bad it will all become. I also view the world a lot differently then I did two years ago when I started prepping. I care more about the people in my immediate circle then humanity at large. Does that make me selfish and weird? Quite possibly when seen outside my immediate family. But probably no more so then a tribe on the tundra 10,000 years ago.

I am so glad the general population isn't as angry and unhappy sounding as so many here seem to be these past few months. Several long time members have 'gone over the edge' and just exploded. It's kind of a drag. There seems to be far more mean and unkind remarks posted lately too. I'm not sure what's causing this, but I've certainly noticed it as well Ferretlover and it's a bit unsettling.

One major contributing factor is the economy, IMO. As it declines, it can carve away at one's personal sense of safety and worth. Peoples self-esteem can drop. This, of course, can generate sadness which in turn will change people a bit and cause them to act unfriendly to others. This is just a lay observation, and I may be entirely wrong....

I think a big part of it that over the course of several years of peak oil awareness we thought we had the future all planned out and we were getting ready for the main event and now we've been shown a whole different sort of doom swoop in unexpectedly. I mean, we're preparing for high energy prices, which in most cases requires a high investment in time and money, and now gas is under $2 a gallon and it may be several years before it doubles again. So now we're still hanging out on peakoil.com but there isn't a lot of peak oil to talk about anymore. It's like a bunch of concertgoers sitting in their seats being told the act has been postponed.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'I')'ve mostly not been posting lately. Feel like I already said everything I can and lots of people didn't care. Don't know if I can help anyone any more. :( I'll miss you if you go, vision-master.

Ludi, don't give up. There is much hope, we're just often looking in the wrong place for it.
