Wikipedia: Autogyro

-- It's not a helicopter

-- If it's under 250lbs, it's considered an ultralight which means no FAA license

-- You can get one for under $10,000

-- They're the safest way to fly

-- Carry 200lbs of gear or another person

-- Range: 50+ miles @ ~60mph

See videos of autogyros in action at YouTube.

Flying [and landing] one of those things post-peak is like an invitation, I've got fuel, come rob and kill me.

Driving isn't?

If I had the money to afford one of these, then I could also afford night vision, and fly under cover of darkness. I'd probably also have the money to have a secluded doomstead within range.

I don't, but one of you might. These things are neat, I'd love to own one.

Also, they require very short runways. If your motor craps out, you gently coast to the ground in full control of the craft.

I remember way back in the day reading a review of a bunch of these in "Popular Mechanics". They are totally awesome. You could fill up a lot of supplies and be set for a few weeks in seclusion.
