The Real G-20 Discussions

How many here think that more than just economics will be discussed at the G-20. Off hand other topics like internal security of member nations. How to house and feed the homeless. Labour Camps etc. Hmmmm

They don't require international coordination.
There is a much more concern about stopping the return of protectionism than concern about labor camps.

Didn't they just have a G8 meeting (or is it G7 now?). Now the G20 meeting. I think when they have the G12 meeting, they'll be able to really get some stuff done...if nothing happens at the G11 meeting that would prevent that.
I wouldn't bet on anything happening until the G9 members and the G14 members each have their own meeting and then meet all together at the G23 meeting.

My first reaction was that the G20 meeting was a failure. I was wrong.
They did something extremely important at that meeting, they shut up France's Sarkozy. The French President wanted to reintroduce protectionism to "protect the workers".
The other G20 members were able to agree on the basic tenet of free trade and ignored France's suggestion.
That means no 21st Century Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act. Globalization was saved at the G20 meeting...at least for now.
