If you're worried about death, it probably means you've missed out on life.

Dude... what's with the avatar size?

I want to allow some latitude on size... but it requires everyone's open cooperation to work.

Thanks in advance.

Ludi,

Many folks prospered during the great depression... some even got wealthy.

Smart people like yourself will always be in demand. Count on it.

Remember the lessons of HawkMan.

Live fiercely, with passion & wisdom.
Practice mercy in everything you do... especially when you are forced to be merciless.

You're a rather interesting portion of an even more amazing tapestry of life.

Act accordingly.

That is all.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

It used to be a lot smaller, today it grew? Anyhow, I didn't have anything to do with it. Feel free to shrink it back to normal size if you know how, I don't.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'A')re things really getting so crappy I will likely be dead in two years?
Just having a heck of a time reconciling that with one of the best economic years I've had, this one, 2008.
I've tried asking my husband if this is rational, he doesn't seem to think it is.
He probably wouldn't even want me posting this thread. He's worried about me getting paranoid. Just looking for some clarity.
thread with background info

Ludi, if things don't improve for my business in the next 6-12 months, it will be gone. My base salary to support my house and family, gone. My seven figure revenue business with 10+ employees, gone. It is what it is, and I cannot make people patronize my business if they don't have the money to do so.

But I have been here before when I had another business before 2000 before the .com bust. I still had the same house, wife, bills, etc. Only thing changed was PO awareness and the need to be prepared for the possibilities of the future. I have channelled my fears into education, prepping, and being smarter with my money. This time around, instead of waiting for the last minute, I will do my best to stave off disaster and in the end I will prosper. I have no debt, and I am earshot of the end of my mortgage. I have food stored, a piece a land I can go ti if I REALLY have to, and I am somewhat ready for things to get tough.

I am A LOT more ready than I was in 2001 when my last business closed down.

I won't die as a result of what's happening today. I could step out on the curb and die. Yesterday I was one car away from a massive accident right in front of me. When it's my time there is nothing I can do about it.

Ludi, we'd be empty without you!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ferretlover', 'Y')ou KNOW what is going on in the world,
Apparently I DON'T know. :( Apparently it is much worse than I thought.

Celente comments that the entertainment industry will be one of the few survivors. Think India, Bollywood. In the midst of a depression, people REALLY want relatively cheap entertainment. They'll continue going to movies and renting movies, but will forgo the expensive lattes and going out for dinner.

You are well placed to endure a depression.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'M')aybe it is time to take a break for awhile...

Yeah, I think so. In fact this is maybe my 2nd post in a month ... and I only read this thread because you started it, Ludi, and because of your title.

I have gone close to total ''fry-brain" several times in the last few months over all this .... stuff ....

I found myself not living the way I wanted to be living, or thinking the way I wanted to be thinking, or doing what I wanted to be doing -- all in terms of my personal values.

In the Bible it says "As a man thinketh, so shall he be." It was/is time for me to stop wallowing in this doom/gloom and get on with life.

So I don't check in here very often right now.

Anyway, I agree -- time for you to walk away from the boards for a while.

And, yes, I am thinking you will be alive in two years. I sure hope so, because I really like you.

We all can only live one day at a time.

Sufficient to the day is the trouble therein.

We'll see what happens.

We can't know what will happen in 2 years.

If we're around it will be interesting.

Serious participation in this website has potential pitfalls. It's sort of like experimenting with a dangerous drug.

For me, I have to keep fighting to maintain my center, both physically and mentally. Otherwise it's all over (for me).

Ludi, I am constrained to repeat the advice I gave you earlier: Exercise. This seems to be a weak link in your overall survival system.

Also, I think "taking a break" (from PO.com) is a good idea. I am just coming off of one myself. Or maybe I am. Not sure.

Best advice I've heard was from Patience,

For me, hope, and a positive outlook, seem to come focusing on what I can do right now to make my life better. If I'm tired, then I rest a bit, or sick, then I do all I can to recover. On a normal day, I mentally check off what is on my immediate list to do, and the sensible priorities of those things. Then, I have an immediate goal for the day. If I'm able to achieve something toward that goal, or for something further down the list, then I have reason to feel good about it. If not, then I have food for thought on planning the next day, which gives an opportunity for tomorrow to be better.

Since I read that, I have just tried and focusing on the present and my goals...avoiding monotonous work where the mind wanders. It has made a noticable difference.

If you read this Patience...thanx.

Ludi : I don't get why you are afraid about dying, as in two years from now, you will be afraid about LIVING.
Don't get me wrong, I don't suggest you to commit suicide. Instead of thinking about your own death, you should protect your family as best as you can. That's your mission.

If you are living on your own, what's the point about dying? Just buy a reserve of pop corn and enjoy the show. Oh! And don't forget your solar glasses and good sun screen cream in case you have the chance to observe a nuclear conflict.

I don't work for an insurance company so I can't give you odds, but I'd guess you have a leg up on those who think things will be fine in two years.

I'm not that religious, but I think whether you'll be alive in two years is in God's hands. There really is no way of knowing what will happen next week, let alone in 2 years. Keep on keeping on.

We all enjoy your posts, Ludi. This is an interesting thread.

Events will continue to speed up over the next few years as we have already started to enter the age of the 5th World Cycle (age of the 6th Sun). We must rely more and more on our intuition and integrity in order to stay intact. The top is spinning faster..........
Has the age of materialism and power started to subside?

Will the ancient knowledge of the "golden age" reveal itself. The knowledge of lost civilizations. The time of man before the great flood? The time before history was lost.

Good thread - as I can certainly concur with Ludi's fears. Actually, it's not the dying in 2 years that I'm afraid of, it's the fear of "bad living" that I fear most.

So yeah, I just have to focus on what I can do, such as selling this house since there's no way we can pay off the mortgage in any reasonable time frame, and moving to someplace where we can buy a house for cash, such as upstate New York. Then we'd be able to live on very little income for the long haul, performing services for barter, etc.

I'm just bummed at this particular point in time as the housing market seems to be frozen solid at the moment.

I just have to hope, come Jan 20th, there will a brief window of hope and optimism, coupled with oceans of money being dumped into circulation, which would enable us to put the house on the market and go for a quick sale. If not, I guess I'll just have to wait for the People's Revolution. Heck, that might even be fun...LOL.

In any case, I know I'll most likely never work a real "job" again, same for my partner. Those days are gone forever. I just have to focus on what we CAN do, just like the rest of us here on peakoil dot com. :)

No, the end of the world isn't coming 'till 2006!!! No, wait, Oct. 2007!!! No wait, next Thursday.

I doubt you'll be dead. What are you imagining you'll die of exactly?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Narz', 'W')hat are you imagining you'll die of exactly?

Pneumonia, stroke, heart attack, renal failure, or possibly killed by rampaging zombies (since everyone believes in them so much, they must really be a threat). Or whatever it is that's supposed to be so deadly in the next couple of years.

I'm not really "afraid" of dying, per se. Somewhat afraid it might be painful, I guess. I'm not able to work up any actual fear of the zombies.

Just curious to know how different people perceive the near future regarding hard times.
