I don't know how many other states have this law...

To hunt, purchase ammunition, and to purchase guns in Illinois, you must have an FOID (Firearms Owner ID) card. You get application from the state police website (or your local sheriff/PD) and send it in with a fee to the state. They do some kind of background check and are suppose to send you your card within 60-90 days (I think).

I guess you could move into the state with firearms and avoid registering, but you won't be able to get a hunting license without the FOID. So there is a way to stay under the radar - but they make it difficult.

There is no such law in Ohio. In fact where I grew up in NW Pennsylvania you were given a deer rifle at birth. (not really but everyone had guns).

There is no waiting period for handguns in Ohio. You cannot buy ammo at the time of purchase, however long gun ammo purchases can be made when you buy the gun. They escort you to the door though.

Is that the same place where people cling to guns and religion to cope with bitter times?

I think the answer is zero.

There are cities that have registration requirements: New York, DC, probably some others. No other state that I know of that has special requirements about registering owners.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('clodwilly', 'W')hat is supernatural is each cell continues to produce ATP against the drag of entropy, and each cell wall remains intact the energy is contolled for a predermined time then the cell wears out just in time for another to grow and replicate, the whole system is fascinating and if supernatural power wasn't holding each cell you would cease to exist.

Look at a flower. what is it for? To look at.
and the sunset and kittens and puppies. grass, birds couds.
all pretty colors.

You cannot see God it is strange.

Reminds me of the section on "Grace" in the Road less Travelled. In essence the author uses life and evolution as proof of the hand of God pushing us "upstream" against the force of entropy. It is the most compelling argument for the divine I have yet encountered.

Husband says Chicago should be a separate entity, become a district & not part of the state - that city is the fertile soil these sort of laws sprout from. So many people think Chicago is the way the whole state is - but there is plenty of rural countryside and that town just ruins things for the rest of the state and sucks up the tax dollars.

In response to the OP - I do think things will get bloody. But it is going to take greater pressure than we are under now to get people to step over that line. People are still snapping up the latest cell phone, sucking down lattes & burning up their charge cards at the mall.

In recent days I've frequently seen the "frog in the frying pan" reference. Americans have become complacent and accustomed to the slow erosion of freedoms, the creeping decline in moral standards, the ever lessening importance of family, the rampant sense of entitlement.

Much of society doesn't remember how to fend for themselves, but there are plenty of folks who will be willing, even eager, to riot once they decide they aren't getting enough of what ever it is they think they "deserve."

Check out Massachusetts before you go! a non resident carring a loaded gun through the state with no other crime attached to the event gets a mandatory year in jail. Residents get to apply for cards and have to keep renewing them. And to think that the American Revolution started in Concord mass over a cache of rifles and cannon the milita had stored.

Frak You, I refuse to pay

Those people in Washington seem to think it's perfectly OK to Tax the American people into the next millenium to cover the losses of their banker buddies, but I'm not paying for it.

It's time to realize they have stolen your wallet and refused to give it back. They are not representing what I want and I can't remember the last time they had.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way. It's over and it's time to let them know it's over.

They aren't fooling me. This isn't saving anything, It's just postponing it.

Maybe they are also aware it's the end of the world, and that they will be snug in their bunkers before the masses realize. Maybe they know this will never be paid back and so are just maxing out the card.

Last I looked my name is not on that card. The United States Government goes into default, Not my reponsibility. Go talk to JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs. They are the ones that commited identity theft against the US Government.

I learned my lesson with Worldcom/MCI. Bernie Ebbers going to jail didn't get me my money back or make me feel any better.

They may be able to prevent us from stopping them doing this, but I refuse to pick up the tab.

Bernanke wants more

US Federal Reserve chief Ben Bernanke says more government spending to combat economic weakness "seems appropriate".

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ReverseEngineer', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('manu', 'W')ill this get bloody? You will soon find out as it is going to be a Black Christmas. It will all come down by then. Have a happy New Year, if your still alive.

You are predicting Doom by Xmas? I'm still holding to April 15th of 2009. LOL.

Anyhow, I suspect it depends somewhat on your neighborhood and personal circumstances as to the precise day Doom arrives for you. I'm hoping to make it through Xmas and maybe another couple of years if all works out well.

See You on the Other Side

Reverse Engineer

I am talking of a very bad economic collapse, the exact dates will be the 28th or 29th of Dec. It will be a shock to most, others will make it through. Just depends on many factors. Best to be away from the big cities. Another bad day will be Jan. 25th. That could be rioting or multiple terrorist strike.

I dont see this getting bloody until deppression hits, and esp when food shortages and gas shortage hits. By the looks of it I can see the DOW going down to about 6,500 as a base in the next year "a loss of about 5 trillion bucks" This will really hurt the economy and pensions will be annihilated "boomer's will be broke and penniless'
By the time Obama leaves office the dollar will be worth about 30% current value, the stock market will be around 4,500. unemployment will be in the upper teens and banks by the scores would have went under.. Officially will be called only a serve recession but in reality will be a depression.
