Anyone have one of these? Do you like it?

What happens if you want to can a small batch, can you still do that with this pressure canner?

Thanks

I have a very similar but older canner that I got off Ebay. I'm a big fan of the gasketless canners. Beats the heck out of having to worry about having to worry how to stockpile gaskets. The gaskets dry rot over time even if you're not using them.

And yes, you can process one half-pint jar at a time in a big canner if you want.

We purchased a slightly smaller version of this a few months ago, and have been very pleased with its performance. It was well worth the price!

Jee-hosephat, but that's a big canner!

Do you have 2qt jars you want to process? Or do you plan to process really large batches at a time? I know you can use a large one to can a single pint jar at a time, bit I would think it would take much longer (and more fuel) to get a very large canner up to temperature?

The brand gets many kudos, anyway.

One is on my Christmas list, but I'm not yet sure which size is optimal for me. Both the 21.5 and 15.5 hold 7 quart jars. I need to stack some 2qt jars and measure with a flexible tape. No point in ordering the next larger size if it doesn't hold any more 2qt jars.

Edit: you can view the manuals online here.

I have the 21 quart model. If I were thinking at the time, I would have went for the 30 quart model or larger. I can only process 7 quarts at once and it would have been nice to do 14 instead.

I've not tried the others but my All American pressure canner is a marvel and I love it.

It all depends on what kind of things you pressure can, how big of batches, and the size of jars you use. We have the big one, can hold 2 layers of quarts or 3 layers of pints, I think, or half gallons too, and a small one that will hold quarts or pints only. We will use both of them at one time or another during the season. When we do our main batch of salsa or hot sauce, we will fill the big one up with pints.

I have the one that holds 14 quart jars and an older one that holds 7 quart jars. They're fantastic, never have to worry about the seal or the gasket going bad.

When you're doing a lot of canning being able to do 21 quarts in a batch is a lifesaver. We've done about 350 quarts this Fall of assorted produce and fruit, bite the bullet and get the big one. You CAN do small batches in it just fine, but it's so easy to find a used 7-quart canner for small batches if you want, and having 2 canners makes the big jobs a lot more pleasant, you don't spend so much time waiting for things to heat up / cool down.

The other essential item, if you don't have one, is a Squeezo or equivalent. Honestly the plastic, cheap version works better for some things than the fancy all-metal one. We've been doing 10-gallon runs of applesauce because the apple trees went crazy this year and it's so easy with the Squeezo it makes it a real pleasure, same with the 100 quarts of salsa verde and enchilada sauce we made from tomatillos.
