$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('topfuel', 'l')ooks canada's central bank is devaluing the dollar
to benefit from the U.S. added line of credit.
Most likely sales are huge hydro dams, hugh oil reserves,
water rights.

The BoC isn't devaluing the currency; it's just market speculation. If you wanted to move on this, you should have done something back in 2002 when our dollar was worth 62¢ US.

I'm buying.

Seriously, I'm buying. There are companies out there in Canada with price/book ratios of less than 1.0. You could liquidate the company today, sell the land and equipment, and get back more money.

As I wrote earlier, I accumulated more shares of a company at 17 cents per share, when the company had 55 cents worth of cash. They have more cash in the bank than the current market cap. And the land property, equipment, and uranium reserves are thrown in for free. The price/book ratio? 0.1.

The exchange rate angle? The Canadian dollar to my local currency, has gone down from CAD/SGD 1.5 to 1.2.

Everything is on sale. And it's a fire sale.

What, are you guys all nine years old or what? The Canadian dollar's been trading in the 70-90¢ US range for about 35 years. The last two years were the only time I can remember when the dollar was up to anything like par with the US dollar, never mind worth more. You guys are acting like you've just discovered oxygen or something.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('topfuel', 't')he U.S. was investing in china in 2002 (62 cent),not canada so much, you just don't get the big picture.

I LIVE here; I know what the dollar's been worth historically. I've probably been "getting the big picture" since before you got the big nipple.

Who cares about CAD/USD? I sure don't. What I care about is CAD/SGD, and USD/SGD. It all depends on your point of view.

Well, presumably, the Canadian dollar was worth less against the Singapore dollar in the past than in was just a year ago. Again, you must have hatched recently.

That's easy enough to explain without having to assume people were born in 1999.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('topfuel', 'y')ou haven't noticed that the U.S. owns 80% of all major industry

A) According to...?

B) Several of the industries you're talking about MOVED here to make use of the advantages here. It's not that they were bought it; it's that it was more economical to work here than elsewhere. That's not the same thing a "fire sale", as it's been put elsewhere.

Then why are you acting like this is different from, say, 2006?

You gotta be kidding me, right?

No, go on, explain what's different. Did you see Frank's chart? We're back in the same trading territory we've been in since the early 1970s.

Now explain to me why, when the dollar fluctuates on base commodity prices (by and large), Canadian businesses that for the most part have nothing to do with the commodities market and are facing just the same pressures as US, Singaporean, European, and other companies at the moment, but which are backed by a regulated banking system not particularly exposed to collapse, are suddenly supposed to feel compelled to roll over and grab at your money more now than last year? A company is either in a position to sell itself or it isn't, regardless of what the national currency is doing. IF a company happens to be for sale, then yes, it's less expensive for you to acquire it. But the whole country hasn't just said, "well, sh!t, Sherman, the Canadian dollar is down, I suppose we'd better all line up our children and sell them into slavery".

I mean, if that is your impression, I'm afraid I'm not convinced. I don't see the fundamentals in it.
