You seen these reports? Very strange. The global financial panic starts here in the USofA, spreads around the world and the world money flocks to US government securities for safety. Well, oil is traded in dollars. Countries must have dollars in order to operate on other exchanges too. This is a logical move. Notice, however, where the money isn't going. It isn't going into US equities and it isn't going into money market funds. Now, I'm sure some of it is, is has to, but most of it is fleeing to the safest investment device denominated in dollars that anybody can be in, not the second safest.

So, knowing that the collapse was coming, which really came first, the idea to spring for a 700 billion bailout or the idea to create a way to fill a need to sell treasury instruments to so many all at once? I don't know the answer to that question. I'm not even sure that Hank Paulson knows the answer to that question, they are bound to have come at him almost in parallel.
