One of the most interesting books I have ever read......

Unread postby r101958 » Fri 17 Oct 2008, 23:02:00

I recommended this book on another string but thought that I might share a link to it. I first read it about 4 years ago and found that I couldn't stop reading it. It is one of the most interesting books I have ever read. I think it would be interesting to most of you too. I highly recommend it.

The title is 'Post Intellectualism and the Decline of Democracy'. Below is the link to the ebook (no download, but still free). The initial site loads fairly slowly.

I am interested to learn of your book recommendations too.

Dang!....my mistake. The book is not free at this site.

I have a hard copy of the book. A friend that I recommended it to said that he had found it as an ebook on the internet (no cost). So I went searching and found this place and thought that this was it. I should have looked at the site more closely. My apologies to all. It still is a great book....please believe that even though my credibility is now in shambles.

Relax. You're going to have to do a little more than that to ruin your credibility around here. :-D

Hehehe too true. After whats happening on markets and what the population at large has been sold on our economy and how things work. I'd say your credibility is triple A plus

Did Standard and Poor give him that rating? If so, I don't trust it!

Ooo! I actually read a few pages of that in the bookstore the other day - hard to put down.

Along the same lines (somewhat) you may find a book called "Coersion" very interesting. It's written from a standpoint of a marketing guru talking about how a science/art has been made out of manipulating public opinion without the target realizing they're being manipulated. Facinating stuff. Also, check out "On Being Certain" by Robert A. Burton. Those two books completely changed how I view American politics, even though they aren't really political.

Anyway, thanks for the reccomendation - I'm looking forward to getting into it!

Many thanks to all for being lenient with my mistake.

I am sure the ebook is out there somewhere at no cost. I will continue to try to located it. Used copies are also available at Amazon and they are not too expensive, stay away from the new ones though (expensive).

I'll be checking 'Coersion' out. Thanks for the other recommendations too.
