$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pops', 'H')einie, it surprises me you would advise people to help take down their bank.

Are you telling people to trust their bank, Pops? I say trust yourself.

Banks are vile, wicked institutions. They are the reason we are in this mess.

Wasn't it the banks that got us in to this mess? I say screw you banks... I don't have much faith in USD, but i have less faith in some digits in a computer.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('dunewalker', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pops', '

I'd be very wary of following the suggestions of those seemingly unable to adjust to today's reality. This is the number one requirement for future survival--ability to adjust to the day's reality and react, quickly. That's how it used to be and is again. Complacency is not the theme of the day, nor of the future.

Look, you know me Heinie, I have all my money in things of value regardless of some hedge funds fortunes.

Further, the reason we are in this mess is we thought the party would go on forever.

To tell people with no things of value the best thing they can do is run on their bank is silly because when they crash their and everyone else's banks and come to someone like me with worthless paper to trade for something I have of value what do you think I'll say?

Buck up.

As Pops said, if the financial system crashes, the paper currency you managed to extract will be limited value.

Convert that paper to hard goods that can be bartered and buy enough non-perishable food to last six months.

If some sort of economic system isn't restarted after six months, well, you can connect the dots...

Exactly, trust banks ? trust money ?

I ordered a couple cases of MH #10 breakfasts to round out my long-term cache and it shipped in 1 day and I'll get it in a few, so that business is still going strong.

I see this a matter of personal survival. I'm not trying to incite panic.

Pops, I grew up as the son of parents who watched their parents lose everything in the Depression. My mother actually had no shoes for periods of time. Her father lost his dairy business and spent his remaining years dying on a couch. My father's father lost his job as a supervisor for the Pennsylvania Railroad and spent his remaining working years in a menial position for the PRR. The consequences affected my own life deeply.

Not sure if cash will retain its value but it's better in your hands than a bank's. That's step one, getting it out of their hands and into yours.

I could be wrong but I think we're going down.

I went to my bank to take all my money out and I couldn't even get close to it--the whole thing was on fire.

There was a black helicopter hovering above the building with a flamethrower mounted on the bottom laying down wave after wave of fire to all parts of the building.

There were deposit slips and other pieces of paper floating through the air, some of them still smoldering.

The ATM was still visible, but it had started to melt and there was no way to get close enough even to do a "fast cash" withdrawal.

On the tail fin of the helicopter there was a Masonic emblem with "Rothschild" in cursive underneath it. The pilot looked a little like HEADERRACK's avatar.

Pops,

While I agree with your reasoning, here is my logic for getting ahead of the curve. First I've already done some limited prep from both a tangible and psychological perspective.

I have no debt except what I owe on the house. I can manage the mortgage even with a SIGNIFICANT reduction in Income or total unemployment for up to 6 months. I have cash reserves for other needs also.

The reason I pulled most of my cash out last week was because only in a perfect world filled with genuises does your idea pass muster. Unfortunately J6P is an idiot, and I'm going to get what I can out and convert it to preps and tangible things before it becomes worthless.

You can keep your money in the banks, which will ultimately tank because of the stampeding Hoard. We are very close to a collapse IMHO right now, it wont take much more bad news for the beginning of the cascading failures to start. The price of oil isn't going to matter If there are no companies to refine and deliver it!

Very funny, well-written post, Tex.

But you have to admit things have gotten grimmer than you were expecting six months or a year ago. Far grimmer.

At some point counseling, "Have patience! Hang in there and all will be well" starts to sound fatuous. Maybe we're reaching that point.

My mind keeps going back to real estate (and employment). I don't see how prices can improve before going much lower, creating a whole new wave of foreclosures. The market is so fixated on the current mess it can't see ahead to the next one.

Conceivably I could be trying to incite individual action? Not panic?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Heineken', 'B')ut you have to admit things have gotten grimmer than you were expecting six months or a year ago. Far grimmer.

There is a lot of uncertainty for sure. Bad things might happen. But I for one think it's all necessary and good to reset this mess. I'm losing a bunch of fictional wealth in my house and in my stocks, but it had to happen. Once it happens the system should be more stable, not less. It's like kinetic vs potential energy. There was a lot of potential energy in the system (bad energy). It's being deflated. That's good. That's how I see it.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Heineken', 'M')y mind keeps going back to real estate (and employment). I don't see how prices can improve before going much lower, creating a whole new wave of foreclosures. The market is so fixated on the current mess it can't see ahead to the next one.

Many think the lower prices in housing is an improvement. Employment, I agree is the biggie. If you cannot provide a product or service that people want to trade you stuff for then you are in trouble.

Just for the record, I didn't pull mine out because Heineken said to. I did because it made sense in my situation and I did so before this thread was even started. However, I still appreciate that Heineken had no qualms with trying to warn people.

Dino,

1. I don't think the crash will get "reset." It will get worse and start touching more and more real people in real ways.

2. A continuing fall in housing prices would interact negatively with employment and the rest of the economy, just as it's doing now. No way it's an improvement. It would make the disaster worse for almost everyone.
