Is it the worst yet?

Discussions related to the physiological and psychological effects of peak oil on our members and future generations.

Is this deja vu or something more?

We've seen it all before.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ReverseEngineer', 'N')obody noticed the ever increasing size of the prison population of the US over the last 20 years?

I didn't realize there were people that haven't noticed.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '#')1 on your Survival Plans should be staying out of Prisons or Detention Camps. #2 is trying to avoid Conscription as Cannon Fodder. However, as this spins down, both become close to unavoidable in a world with nowhere left to run, nowhere left to hide. The actual ability of the land (and ocean) to provide for so may as we have has long since been overshot. Now is the time for the Great Dieing.

I don't disagree with any of the above; but it emphasizes my point; we are no where near "worst" yet. We are still, even now, living in a very luxurious time; its just that the modest drop in our level of luxury is becoming notable; and causing some pain for the few that had pushed their level of comfort all the way to the limit of the ability to spend.

Survival in the future will depend more and more on *NOT* being noticed. Practice now. The art of hiding in plain sight.
Yes, we are. As we are.
And so shall we remain; Until the end.

I tend to agree with this. The guy standing out like a sore thumb will be the one looking for trouble.

The whole thing is a good spectacle and watching a bunch of amoral pricks who've been living off the profits of empire (let's call that wealth what is - stolen loot) get a little bit of comeuppance (though as yet not nearly enough) gives a pleasant feeling of natural justice being administered but where I live the rice is still being planted and harvested, people are still getting pissed at night, boys and girls are still flirting with each other; life goes on. If this is the end of the world (as so many on this board seem so keen to see), it's not even happening with a whimper.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('AgentR', 'B')ecause we and they can afford food; one way or another, more food than we can possibly eat; even if they are evicted and lose their jobs.
Yes, there will always be a certain small segment of any population that has difficulty feeding itself for a variety of reasons, but that isn't the result of our current economic situation; it is the natural state of human life. For the most part; we don't let them starve, despite their disfunctionality. There are also, at all times, people that endure periodic hardship as a result of natural or individual economic disasters; but again; these things are in no way unique or even over represented in our current situation.
The question was "worst". The answer is "not even close".
That does not imply that some people aren't suffering some hardships; but even the ones that are suffering the strongest effects of the current situation are NOT dieing of starvation.
When, and it WILL happen, the streets of American cities are openly littered with people dieing of starvation and its associated diseases, then we can start talking about "worst". As it is now, you're more likely to be arrested for loitering, thrown in a box, sandwich and cup of water placed firmly in your hand.

I agree that things aren't that bad now(I'd say our current situation is still so-so or maybe even decent compared to how bad things could be), it just gets old hearing people say "be grateful for what you have because people from _____(insert country or time period) have or had it worse than us" as if there is some supernatural force keeping track of whether or not we are grateful. It's irrelevent, pseudo-superstituous crap and it doesn't really help us, the third world people or people from the past (they don't give a damn anyways since they expired long ago.) I guess I'm just tired of guilt trips.

I don't do guilt trips; they're a waste of energy. I don't recall using "grateful" either. Its an ok word, but its very passive in the sense of being grateful for something external.

This is all going to be very direct, and very personal a lot sooner than anyone is going to be happy with. My point is, if people think things are even close to a "worst" now; they need to toughen the ***** up because they are apparently nowhere near ready to SEE what they are soon to see.

No, it is not the worst yet. Pace yourselves, people. The worst is yet to come.

Worst? You need to get to bad before you get to worst.

For an individual it's bad when you lose your job. It's the worst when you can't get food.
