FTSE now down nearly 6%. Same for France and Germany. Ireland and Russia down around 10% as well. Brutal.

Dip below 10,000? Very possible. It's almost there now. DIA is trading pre-market at 101.40/101.70 bid/ask

(DIA tracks the Dow at close to 1/100 ratio)

The question is will it close below 10,000?

DOW dipped into the 9800's, 400+ points. Europe down 6%-8%+, Russia down 16% leading to suspension of trading, Brazil stock exchange also suspended following 10%+ drop. Well, that bailout certainly worked!

It will be interesting to see if the PPT interfere to stop what appears to be an acceleration of the drop. With the Dow now at about 9920, and I can see a chance of the S&P going below 1,000 today.

Wasn't the DOW "reconfigured" to improve the numbers ? The real story should be watching the NASDAQ and S&P plunge

Down 524 points now (and snowballing) and we are just an hour 15 min into the day.

I just went to the bank and took out some more cash, then hit grocery store and got rice, beans, diapers, and some sugary comfort foods. I was the only shopper in there. Saw a few cars at the bank, but no cause for alarm.

I will be glued to the computer today, that's for sure. Even my parents (head in the sands) took money out and are feeling nervous now. Meanwhile, I have 3 more orders of bulk food, etc that better arrive today. (fingers crossed)

*Edit* Well, here we are about 1/2 hour later & the snowball seems to be breaking apart a bit. Wonder if we'll see that big slide again around end of trading day?

Whole world is selling off now. DOW is down historically almost 800 points. What is worse is that nobody thinks this is nearly the bottom.

"I think it's going to take some time to get out of this but don't forget that the foundation of the United States economy is very solid. I think the United States can compete with any economy of any industrialized country,
I feel moderately optimistic that at the end of the year we will have signs of an economic recovery.
Hopefully the biggest part of the housing decline will be over by the end of the year."

Hahaha yeah that is funny, the US economy is/was solidly fueled off of debt plain and simple. People borrowing from credit cards, taking second mortgages out of their houses to buy SUVs and cars manufactured with foreign parts and filled up with foreign petroleum. I think we have began to outstrip the global ability to lend us money and this is partially the result of that.

Asian Markets Down Big . . . Deja Vu

Unread postby Cashmere » Tue 07 Oct 2008, 23:28:43

That moron Cramer called for a 20% decline? Pussy. That's only 4 sessions down 5%. If he had any nuts whatsoever he'd have called 50% down.

Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. Many more than half will die. It will occur everywhere, including where you live. If you fail to recognize this, then your odds of living move toward the "going to die" group.
