Anxiety

What coping mechanisms do you use to deal with anxiety? I usually just tell myself that "in 50 years (I'll be dead by then), none of this shit will matter". Out of all the coping mechanisms I've tried, this one works the best. It makes 90% of my stress just vanish.

I look at the stars, and realize what a tiny piece of creation I am, which makes my problems seem even smaller, in the grand scheme of things. I also steep myself in international problems, political and economic difficulties and my friend's problems, as a distraction. But I think it too, absorbs me and makes my own difficulties seem smaller.

We have a Creator. The Creator put us here. That's it.
Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. Many more than half will die. It will occur everywhere, including where you live. If you fail to recognize this, then your odds of living move toward the "going to die" group.

I continue to return to the place of understanding that all things happen for a reason and a cosmic plan. And if it's not clear at the moment what that reason might be, to have faith that in the future it will become clear.

Some other people I know like to imagine that they're the main character in a movie, and that the audience is rooting for them.

I like that one!

Apparently I take it out on PO members.

These last 24 hours have been rough in the markets and I watch too much CNBC and now my "fury" is spilling over into posts.

Im really not a mean guy. :(

Sometimes I have similar thoughts, but mine aren't as positive. Sometimes I feel like the main character in a dark comedy... like the joke is always on me.

I enjoy sitting back after dinner with a glass of wine and thinking about all the things I could've done had I cashed out my 401k three months ago, as I considered doing.

But that doesn't last too long.

Only one glass? For me it's at least 12 beers (yeah I'm poor) four times a week to dull the pain.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('hubbertspeak7777777', 'W')hat coping mechanisms do you use to deal with anxiety? I've had the best 50 years anyone could hope for. If I'm lucky enough to get a few more decades and they aren't so wonderful, who am I to complain?
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.

Punching bag is good to deal with stress, is cheap and keeps you fit.

When the stress begins to build, and someone does something to piss me off, I simply think this calming thought:

"They continue this carnate existence at my discretion."

And just like that I feel much better.

twilliam: "Nothing like a little perspective... "

GREAT You-tube. Thanks for sharing that.

I have had a bonafide, diagnosed anxiety disorder since childhood. And I practice psychiatry. So the question of how to deal with anxiety is and always has been a big one for me.

I agree that perspective is a huge part of helping us chill down in any situation.

I am also Christian, and believe that this is not all there is. (i.e. There will be life for us after this world.)

Having reviewed these two concepts this morning, I am going into my day in a much better place inside myself.

Thanks for the thread ... and for that You-Tube.
Must save the link.

When I have a lot of Anxiety over the current situation I just think to myself... "the time of purification draws closer, soon the world will be cleansed of the cancer". Although I do have to admit I'm drinking right now too. :-D
