Do you want to believe?

Unread postby biofuel13 » Sat 04 Oct 2008, 12:15:56

I'm kind of a big nerd when it comes to listening to the radio. I only listen to NPR. Yesterday on Science Friday they had a piece that was basically on tin foil and conspiracy theories.

Being that I myself subscribe to a number of conspiracy theories and they tend to pop up on this site I thought I would post the link to the story and get some feed back.

The main thrust of the story seems to be that when under stress we tend to connect dots that shouldn't be connected.

My reply: Just because your not paranoid doesn't mean they aren't watching you.

I never liked NPR. I always considered them to be liberal/socialist morons.

The other day, I caught some NPR in the car.

They were calling the bailout bill the "rescue package."

Wow. New levels of moronicy.
Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. Many more than half will die. It will occur everywhere, including where you live. If you fail to recognize this, then your odds of living move toward the "going to die" group.

Hi biofuel13,
I heard that segment too. I am all about the conspiracy theory and consider myself to be a well-balanced happy person who does not feel an overwhelming lack of control over my life. Nor do I feel overly stressed-except when thinking about the crazy political climate and decisions our government makes.
The day 9-1-1 happened I said to my husband, I believe our government is complicit in this horrendous act. Several independent sources have since satisfied this position. Just because they are not universally considered true does not mean it is not so. (I didn't read 1984 until after 9-1-1).
The study conducted and reported in Science Friday had a narrow focus and I did not find the conclusions to be compelling.
I'll continue to trust my intuition and question all that is put before me using reasoning that I hope will not put me in a place of danger-emotionally or physically.

Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.
It's not hard to do.

I agree. I was also left wondering who funded this study. Especially due to the results.

Oh oh there I go trying to connect dots again!

Listened to the piece on NPR. Immediately thought of the 911ers, how pathetic their lives must be.

On the one hand. On the right, there's everything else on the airwaves.

Humans are hard wired to make connections even when there are no connections that should be made. Look around at the "ghost photos" that have a bunch of amorphous shadows that nearly every human being wants to turn into a face.
We are built to make images out of nothing and words out of random sounds.

That does not mean that there are no conspiracies, only that one should be careful in assessing them.

Anagami,

If I hadn't been totally grounded in my personal and spiritual life for the decade before I had learned about PO this would have been really stressful. As it is, it was a growth experience to prepare for reality of a big train wreckcoming my way.

Love and deep spirituality, friendship, competitive work situation, sport and fitness, great food, beautiful vacation all add to life. Doomerism is an antidote to the ever present lie of the modern that we are here for hedonist consumerism and then dead and gone. We have to get rooted in our spirituality and community. Read Carolyn Baker and Sharon Astyk. Real life is not a doomer porn extravaganza or a TOD technical orgie of oilproidcution stats.

It's interesting how we split into red and blue people. I feel exactly the same way about right wing talk radio. I find myself getting angry just listening to Savage and Limbaugh.
Deep in the mud and slime of things, even there, something sings.
