All the threads about FEMA, homeland security makes me think that for many critical US citizens it is time to prepare for a complete failure of democracy and human rights.
The most obvious thing is to leave the country, if you are on one of those lists.
It is wise to get informed about different countries now, learning languages etc. In some countries it is extremely difficult to get in, or you need to wait month for your visa. Visas are expensive and to move as well.
But it is so much easier compared to those guys in former times without internet to get information without CD language course etc.
Maybe the outcome of the election would change a little but after the election it is really time.

I agree with you OP. My family has a lot of guns and I am getting a little uneasy for their sake. But if people start getting hauled away because they're on the 'list", the S has officially HTF for me. I'm not leaving. I am a patriot and a veteran. I need to talk with my family about what we're supposed to do if anyone gets taken or arrested. They know exactly where this is headed, but a lot of people still don't realize. I am at DEFCON 1.

"One" of the best? One is subjective,.... compared to most African countries? sure One of the best compared to many central or south american countries where they're poorer but score higher on most happiness indexes? How about compared to the Scandinavian countries where their standard of living and happiness index scores are consistently higher? Only if you're a nationalistic idealogue. I would offer that MANY socialist/capitalist countries are happier than Americans in general, even if their standard of living isn't substantially higher.

I know I would be a happy camper if I knew I wasn't headed towards bankruptcy if I get an infected hangnail. Be nice not constantly worrying how I'm going to pay for my kids college tuition too.

I think the myth of American superiority needs to finally be laid to rest, unless you derive some sense of personal pride from having more tanks, battleships and warplanes than anyone else, personally I can't remember the last time someone offered me a ride in an F-16.

As far as leaving? I'm a WASP. When things turn to crap it's my group that will be looking around for other groups to blame.

The Americans never had a war or a terrorist regime on their own soil.
Both is not my experience either, but I grew up with a lot of people telling what had happened and in the streets there were often men see with an arm or a leg missing. For me it is one of the scariest imagination living under a totalitarian regime. It is something which should never ever happen once again, but I know that this is illusionary.
Sure is that not millions of Americans can and will flee but you really have to think about how exposed you are how you and your family wil or will not survive such times.
On the other hand there are many countries in the world which will turn totalitarian in a major event.

Well, I've been all over the world. Seen the good, seen the bad, seen the downright scarey and I still prefer to live in America.

There will always be problems with a country, if you pack up and leave every time something bad happens, you're going to get really tired.
