$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('MrBill', 'T')hanks Wren. I did not realize that only rich people golfed.

That was news to me.

Mostly they are, and you're welcome. Not ALL- I always have to make it clear on this site that, of course, there is always exceptions to the rules. I speak in general rules of thumb.

I also did not realize that green spaces in cities were unimportant. I seem to see a lot of visible minorities in the parks on the weekends. Maybe to get out of crammed apartments and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine? Or maybe just to spend time with their families? I do apologize for arguing in circles.

I guess the crazy environmentalists that fight for most park spaces in US (as well as generally maintain public spaces and don't look at taxes that support the salaries of city workers as a bad thing, since most environmentalist are liberals and democrats, right?) can be blammed for those people getting out of their "cramped apartments. And what does "visible minorities" mean? Just a racists stereotype slip out? I'm assuming you mean only rcih people are white and that by "visible minority" you mean black and of course black people (latino, too maybe?) are poor and live in cramped urban apartments

I just did not realize there was a worldwide shortage of fresh water. I always stupidly assumed that there was a surplus in one region and a deficit in another.

you're right. All your sarcasim aside, that is a stupid assumption.

Maybe we should use fossil fuels to move fresh water around the globe to where it is needed? There are you happy?

Nope. Not really.

Wren, you have a very US-centric view of the world. You cannot argue the facts, so by default you are forced to invent strawman arguments, imply that I am a racist and somehow against the environment (despite my telling you which environmental causes that I support with my time and my money). Good luck with that. Feel free to ignore me. I know I will not be waiting with baited breath for your next banal posting. Cheers.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')any NASCAR fans think nothing of jumping in their recreational vehicles or pickup trucks and driving 300 miles or more to watch races in places like Talladega, Alabama; Bristol, Tennessee; and Las Vegas.

But rising gasoline prices are forcing them to make tough choices.

"The higher fuel prices have hit them hard," said Roger VanDerSnick of International Speedway Corp, one of two major publicly owned race track companies. "We pull from such a huge geographical area."

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) has been one of the fastest growing sports in the United States, boasting a fan base of about 75 million, second only to the National Football League. It has the biggest stable of corporate sponsors of any U.S. sports league and TV deals worth $4.48 billion that run through 2014.

But its largely blue-collar fan base is feeling the pinch. While several tracks still sell out, others have seen crowds shrink.

I am not sure how chariot racing translates into TV viewing? If you have seen Ben Hur once you have seen them all.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')nother factor protecting NASCAR is its increasing reliance on corporate money and TV rights fees, William Blair & Co analyst Bob Simonson said.

"(NASCAR's) relative worry is much less because they have guaranteed contracts on very, very profitable sponsorship revenues and importantly the TV," he said.

The profit margins for the TV and sponsorship businesses are twice those from tickets and concessions, and account for more than half the tracks' earnings, Simonson said.

The danger would be sponsorship revenue drying up if economic weakness lasts a long time, but most of those deals run three to four years, he said.

So Rocc, as fellow vet I take it you don't think Kid Rock would stand up too well to Basic Training?

That is awful!

I think Kid Rock is trying hard to become the Toby Keith of rock music. He did a campaign concert for John McCain at Sturgis back in August.

I don't get it with guys my age...40-45 crowd (even older)...

Never served, but patriotic as all get out.

I think that is called "over compensation".

Reasons:

1) wanted to, but school, kids, wife

2) wanted to, but flat feet

3) wanted to, but bad back

4) wanted to, but...

I'd like to know who on this board served...and here is how it would go...

You either say you served...or you say nothing and it then is assumed you did not.

Really - what is happening to this country slays me...I did my time...may have been blinded...may have been stupid...but I did my time.

There are but a handful of civic duties:

1) give blood
2) vote
3) serve
4) volunteer

Not real hard, but the ass wipes on this board, in my neighborhood, and in my congress I know have not even given blood.

Oh, but they would be the first to grab a flag after 911.

Hey pops...you serve bro?

Umm yeah. I got bad veins. The blood donation people got tired of poking me and told me not to come back.

I'm definitely not interested in killing or getting killed in service to Halliburton.

I do some volunteer work though.

I'm not waving any flags either. Flag wavers scare me. Especially after 911. I never spent 30 seconds worrying about terrorists, but the psycho Americans kept me awake many nights.

I remember waaay back when I first turned 18 years old in high school.
I got a lot of junk mail from the military with really pretty pictures of people doing exciting things with their lives.
