I am posting this from Landers California where I will be this weekend viewing the stars and galaxies with my telescope. My hobby.
I did pick up my $1000 from my credit union as I stated I would. But I did not with draw the entire amount I have there. I believe this event is a short term crisis. It can be shored up for the markets sake temporarily. Election year posturing is what I'm afraid of. Republicans are trying to position themselves to make it look like the Democrats were the ones that sold us down the river with this bail out. What BS!
The friend who called me last night and was the impetus to start this thread grew up in Mexico City. Her family is involved in the PRI party, one uncle was a Governor, another was a past Mayor of Mexico City. She is a smart and successful business woman. She is an American citizen now (I watched her be sworn in). She has no interest in politics and is very cynical about it from what she observed in Mexico City. What is going on now had her unnerved, she is no doomer, but she believes in being prepared to survive the short term. She basically believes all governments are alike. They serve the interests of those in power, and they will do what it takes to stay in power. They will kill people to stay in power.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('hironegro', 'Y')ou guys can't be serious!?
Ordinarily, I'd think this was extreme, too. However, don't underestimate the use of tactics like these to generate a positive consensus for a tax payer backed bail out.

Yea I did, but once again the spin machine takes me out of context.
When I yell
fire, few of you will be in earshot, hence the need for each of us to have a plan and regularly working it.
The current rash of yelling Fire I think is for personal amusement on the part of a few and not out of concern for the members here.
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.
-- Abraham Lincoln, Fragment on Government (July 1, 1854)
