Are We Living Grover Norquist's Wet Dream?

Unread postby Captain_Meh » Wed 24 Sep 2008, 00:34:28

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I') don't want to abolish government. I simply want to reduce it to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub.

I can think of no better way to accomplish this goal than to steamroll a piece of legislation like the Paulson Plan through Congress, thus permanently and irrevocably saddling us and our progeny with enough debt to effectively choke most social programs.

Is it premature to unfurl the "Mission Accomplished" banner?

What we are seeing is the opposite of Norquist's dream. The bailout makes government bigger and more powerful, no smaller and weaker.

Pretty much nobody approves of the recent development in economy, whether liberal, socialist, old school capitalist, libertarian or anarchist.

It should be clear by now that the system does not principally serve any ideology left, right, or above, but only the interests of the major beneficiaries. Alas, not bailing out the big players at this point would crash the system and bring out the zombie hordes.

The Government is in fact made bigger, but it is also made WEAKER by the plan in its ability to micromanage and assist individuals in every little thing.

Which is my understanding of the both the proposed goal and method. ie, to load the government down with so much debt and interest payments that contemplating something such as government run/paid health care is simply removed from the realm of the possible.
Yes, we are. As we are.
And so shall we remain; Until the end.

When it comes to the folly of government, I fear you have no idea of what's possible.

In the interim. The long-term ramifications are that debt squeezes out everything else. Moreover, that timeframe is consistent with the context of that infamous quote; namely, reducing the size of government by half in one generation.
