The Good News Thread

Unread postby smallpoxgirl » Wed 17 Sep 2008, 20:19:29

So, yeah. The world is crumbling around our ears. The entire global financial system is going belly up. The US is preparing for martial law. Russia is about ready to start a nuclear war over Georgia. Hurricaines are raging. The planet's dying, etc., etc., etc.

I'm starting this thread because I can't deal with any more bad news at the moment. There will be no bad news allowed in this thread. I want to know what's going right in the world, and what's going right in your lives.

I'll start. I'm right now sitting in my office in Montana. It's a beautiful sunny day. The sky is blue. It's warm, but not hot. It's really quiet right now. In fact all I can hear is the ticking of the clock and a few cars off in the distance. Behind me an absolutely stunning sunset is forming. It's very nice and very peaceful.

So let's here it. What's your good news?

My son won a bike and it is getting delivered tomorrow! It will be a much needed distraction from the news.

We're getting all kinds of yummy fruit from our orchard and much earlier than expected. I didn't think we would have much until the fifth year.

The weather is beautiful with temps in the low 90s. Looking forward to fall weather.

My sons were recently promoted, my grandkids are smart and good lookin, I have lots of projects to work on, and I have plenty of beer in the fridge. Doesn't get much better than this.
Hope all of you are having an equally good day.

Nice thread - "Good News" always makes me think of that modern version of the bible.

Rockin' grapes on the neighbors' vines. They were a retired couple who a few months ago finally had to move in with their son, like his father a minister. Lovely people and are still doing well in their mid-80s. Might make a pie or some vino. Image

1. The biopsy was benign
2. I am feeling well and energetic
3. This glass of Gewurztraminer (on ice -- heck, ya, I drink it like that -- really cold -- really good) is tasting great
4. Saw a patient today whose mother told me that coming to see me (this was 2nd visit) was the first time she ever felt some one really listened to her -- and was really helping her little boy
5. When the Great Dane/English Mastiff dog chewed up the extension cord to the pond pump last night, it was unplugged :-)
6. Seems like Naiobi (girl pig) might be pregnant
7. Got rid of all the predators, and the chickens are laying like crazy again
8. Got Annie (first horse) back from the trainer, and rode her all by ourselves for the first time this past weekend
9. Have hated peaches my whole life -- until we started getting them warm and ripe from out own trees. WOWIE ... peaches and cream. Yum, Yum!

We are blessed

We just got our solar-electric car registered. It's really fun to get around town in!

We have the first one registered in Maine.

We're taking it to the Commonground Fair this weekend.

Gerwurztraminer is one of our favorites, especially in autumn! My family is healthy, my job is extremely stable, and we have about 300 lb of high quality beef in the freezer. Times are still good for me.

This is fantastic thread. Boy do we need it.

Got me a kitten. He moved into the shed, made it his home. Right now I can hear that he has found the kitchen countertop and the baking dish from the spare ribs I had for dinner...brb...

On a somewhat related note, I have an especially healthy kitten, FAST let me tell you, and SMART, knows when its time to run.

The hens are all laying, although not all every day. I'm getting 6-8 eggs/day out of 9 hens. I take them to work for lunch, keep my neighbor in eggs, share one with my kitten now and then. I've got 2 hens I've identified as salmon favorelles-clucking puff balls if you ask me, but they do have an excellent demeanor.

My supervisor has taken on some new responsibilities, so some workload has shifted to me. I pick up the truck at the shop in the morning, load up the tools. Instead of driving 27 miles each way in my truck, I drive 2 miles to the shop. It's working out for me.

Tomorrow, my woodstove arrives.

Oh, and that awful rash is gone and I'm feeling much better about myself because of it.

I have fallen in love with a wonderful, kind hearted woman and she loves me as well.

My daughter and her 5 kids are moving out of my house in October!

It was a gorgeous day out today here in E. PA.

I took my family and my new Autistic Guide Dog Sailing this weekend, and the doggie did great (the kids are veterans at this point.) Thanks for sending my thought pattern out into the Ocean as opposed to the apocalypse, mad max, etc.
