Movie: "Death Race" with Jason Stratham

Unread postby midnight-gamer » Sat 06 Sep 2008, 16:18:43

This post is a review for the film "Death Race."
My reason for reviewing this movie, is due to the thought that as wild as the following premise is, it's not too absurd to imagine, after reading the many doomish post on this board.
The movie takes place in the not too distant future. Americas economy has crumbled, crime has skyrocketed and privately owned prisons dot the country. To cut down cost and create revenue, a prison operator invents a televised, pay per view car race, using prisoners. The winner of five races is awarded a chance at freedom.
Don't confuse this with the movie by the same name from the 70's. This is a remake that recycles bits of the original formula.
I really enjoyed the movie for what it is. Don't expect any great amount of drama, or thought provoking dialog, this is a action flick. To sum things up, this film seems like a cross between "MadMax" and "Nascar." Check your brain at the door, and enjoy it if your a action fan.

The 1975 movie ‘Death Race 2000’ was done for pure camp. It starred David Carradine, and a then unknown Sylvester Stallone-as ‘Joe Viterbo’.

The premise was in the future (remember y2k was 25 years in the future in 1975) a coast to coast race was run each year, where the point was run over as many people in as short a time as possible while still getting to the finish line first. Extra points were given for running over old people. It was a deliberately made farce.
