There cannot be anything more valuable than these firsthand accounts. I found myself absorbed in FerFal's writings and couldn't help but wonder how much WORSE it would be here. We have no sense of community in general, most don't know our neighbors, and most wonder what are neighbors are up to. Most have guns, and many seem willing to use them.
We can't very well live underground, so get out there and know your neighbors!

First Hand Look at Survivial in an Economic Meltdown

"We had cops too. Cops in B.A. are killed weekly. While I was there at least four were murdered on the job. An environment like that makes for motivated learners. "

In Argentina, a carjack means they kill you and take your car. They wait for you to arrive at home and situations where wives and kids have seen their fathers bleed to death from wounds inflicted by the carjackers are common. Noone is immune so everyone takes this very seriously.

A home? Forget it, average people can’t afford to buy one these days. No credit for normal people for that kind of expenses. You slowly save money for years before you dream of walking into a bank and asking for a loan.

In some cases, orders have been given by judges or officials to open private safety boxes to see if there’s cash or gold (screw our Constitution and the right to intimacy and private property) It’s also a common target for bank robbers, knowing that there’s where the money really is.

don’t think that your stuff is 100% safe or out of the hands of the gov. crooks. It isn’t.

So guys, things don’t look good.

It pains me to see America going through this and the consequences it will bring.
These are critical days, now is when we’ll get a better picture of how bad things will actually get, how long until we see the economy back on it’s feet.
Instead of trying to guess what will happen, lets go through some things you should to right now, if you haven’t taken care of them already.

First, how about what NOT to do?

*Don’t open you big mouth!

First thing to do: Stay calm. If the economy was going to cease to exist, it would have happened already. Yes, things are serious; there will be changes in the ways things are done, but, the economy is only one piece of the picture. Fear and panic are going to make things worse than they need to be.
Second: Yes, do continue to prep as you can afford it. We are getting our first (but not last) taste, nationally, of how things can collapse-in the future-and how we are going to be affected.
Lastly, "Don't open your big mouth," is excellent advice that is often offered here at PO. Do not share info about your preps with anyone in your physical world. One day, in the future, when things are Really Bad, what your neighbors don't know what you have may be an important form of protection for you and yours.

Ride it out, folks, ride it out. This is nothing compared to the possible/probable future. And, now you see why so many people are sharing their prep ideas. Make use of them--for the future.

Good stuff. I also love the (one & only) comment at the end:

Thank you, FerFal, for the great article. Lots of good important stuff…

Jack

I wonder who that might be (grin)?

That´s true, actually some months ago (particulary in Buenos Aires, Argentina´s capital) , if you were not in a good zone, people would through stones in front of your car, and if you stopped, you can expect to be robbed, raped and killed, not joking.
As for lately, since no one stops anymore, they send little kids (4/5 years) to run in front and try to stop cars, tough decisions ...
Is not allowed but most people pack in the street.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('drew', 'T')hat's a scary bunch of blogs from that Argentinian writer. Could things get that bad in an upcoming depression? Probably, which begs the question; crime didn't sky-rocket in the 30's in Canada and the States, did it? What has changed?

In Chicago, my husband had, on the way home, driven through an area just south of where our neighborhood is, to get home. It's considered a very poor neighborhood, mostly black, low to no income bordered by a Spanish neighborhood as a buffer zone. If he is at a stoplight for a period of time, he can get rocks thrown at his car (he does not have a fancy sports car at all, just an old Chevy.) They throw it at him because he is "white". It's happened more times than we care to remember.
It's a race, yes, and poverty issue. It's an excuse some use to try and bait you into a "racism" charge. Hate crime my ass. They're the haters. Husband is just trying to get to work.

If you are talking about people walking in front of you, trying to "stop" you, well, you have to have a very determined face and look like you are going to mow them down. Watch them move out of the way.
It's part of life in the big city. If it's grandma crossing the street, it's a different story. But then again, grandma better not take her time either, because others can take advantage of this too.

You don't make eye contact on the elevated trains (our light rail system) or speak unless you know the person. You don't take chances you don't need to.

Yeah - this sort of thing has always gone on. It's more intense and widespread during difficult times.

The eye contact thing used to be the best one :(

"You looking at my girl"!

"No"

"Why not -you saying she's ugly"!! Whack :(
