Unread postby uNkNowN ElEmEnt » Fri 18 Mar 2005, 15:27:05

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'L')UANDA, 18 March (IRIN) - The number of people killed by mystery illness a in Angola's northern Uige province has risen to 77, health officials said on Friday.

The cause of the outbreak, characterised by fever, coughing and vomiting, sometimes with blood, is still unknown. But the government is so concerned it has sent blood samples to the Centres for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, the officials said.

Why do all these new diseases happen over *there*?

a) The climate (if you're scared of diseases, try the tundra - not much nasties around when you have 8 months of winter )

b) A high number of people involved in substistence farming (ie. a lot of people keeping animals near their home, instead of a small number of people keeping mega-ranches separate from their dwellings)

c) Hygiene and healthcare standards, for humans and animals (ie. westerners can afford to keep their animals healthy)

d) Biodiversity! Destroying your wildlife does have the benefit that it will wipe out a lot of potential disease carriers...

and so on. It's not really hard to figure out...
