Great video interview!

Unread postby burtonridr » Wed 20 Aug 2008, 16:57:07

I think this guy has about the most level head as anyone I have listened to recently.

The video is long, but extremely informative.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('burtonridr', 'N')obody cares to watch or comment on the video?

I watched the tool Bill speak for 12 secs. when he said the russians "decided to attack georgia"...I turned it off.

When are people going to learn that media outlets like Moyer and Democracy Now are nothing more than tools for the establishment.

Guess who has been one of the biggest contributors to the BM show in the past...FORD.

Really - turn off the TV...really.

I watched it.

I agree with people like Bacevich, Michael Klare, etc.

Our military is being used as an energy protection/ energy geopolitical lever. It being used to sustain an unsustainable system.

Moyers did, indeed, start in with "when Russia attacked Georgia", but the whole rest of the discussion would have been a nice compliment to Pat Buchanan's analysisof the recent conflict and the underlying reasons for it.

My only criticism of this video is that it seems to merely address a naive public which needs to be gently persuaded to accept some hard truths; and reject the popular lies streaming forth from media pundits and politicians.

These hard truths have been in circulation now for 5 years. The time for gentleness is over.

I thought the video was outstanding. I think he is absolutely right to lay the problem in the lap of the American public. We don't care enough to inform ourselves. We don't care enough to force our government to behave ethically. The truth is we just want to be fat dumb ignorant consumers. Until we decide to be something else, our media and our government are going to be worthless. It's hard to lay the blame entirely on the media. This is the internet age. If you want the information, it's not that hard to find. You can't expect media to force people to be informed any more than you can expect government to force people to be citizens when they'd rather be consumers.

I am so utterly disappointed.

The first thirty seconds of this has disillusioned me completely with Bill Moyers.

Why didn't that piece of shit address why Big Bad Russia "Decided" to "Attack" Georgia? Why no mention of the fact that the tie-chewing Saak-a-shitvili bombed Ossetia? Was Russia wrong? Maybe. Was Saakashitvili wrong? YES.

And if Moyers has taken this road, then fuck-all with America..

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'L')iving within our means seems to have no politically plausible solution.

To me, that pretty much sums up the dilema as we stand currently.

Man, some of you guys are harsh on this interview.

It seems some folks are far more opinionated about the war in Georgia than I am. That seems to be the major source of complaints.

Maybe I just haven't investigated the issue enough, but I have a pretty hard time picking a good guy and a bad guy in the Russia/Georgia battle. I guess my sense is that Russia has historically been quite aggressive about maintaining dominance in that narrow strip of land because of it's importance regarding access to Caspian sea oil. It's hard for me to put a lot of stock in the Russia's supposed concern for the well being of Ossetian separatists, when Russia herself fought a bloody war just a few years ago to suppress Chechen separatists right next door.

I think he hit it right on the head!

It's like he said. We get the government we deserve. They do the dirty work for us to enable the american way of life to continue, and provide us with convenient cover stories so that we can remain unconcerned about the connection between the two. We are a part of the process in which the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing, but together they still work in unison.

Georgian seperatists wil never get independance from Russia. They are being used. After all they are " Russians " now that they carry Russian passports.

"...tendency on the part of many Americans to think the problems we face are problems out there somewhere, beyond our borders. And if we can fix those problems, then we'll be able to continue the American way of life ... our major problems are at home". Dead on. That's why "the poor people in the third world countries" come up so often in this site.

"The pursuit of freedom, as defined in an age of consumerism, has induced a condition of dependence on imported goods, on imported oil, and on credit. The chief desire of the American people is that nothing should disrupt their access to these goods, that oil, and that credit. The chief aim of the U.S. government is to satisfy that desire, which it does in part of through the distribution of largesse here at home, and in part through the pursuit of imperial ambitions abroad." Nailed!

"the crisis of profligacy" ... "we don't live within our means ... the nation doesn't, and increasingly, individual Americans don't. Our saving - the individual savings rate in this country is below zero. The personal debt, national debt, however you want to measure it, as individuals and as a government, and as a nation we assume an endless line of credit ... and is also going to be shown to be false. And when that day occurs it's going to be a black day, indeed." I'm bracing for impact.

I think you're pre-conceived perception --or synicism?-- of the show misled you this time. The establisment was put on the spot light. Please give it another chance.

In a way I see that as a compliment. Shock treatment will not work for 290 million people, even though, that's what we need.
