Politicians... what are they thinking?

What's on your mind?
General interest discussions, not necessarily related to depletion.

Politicians... what are they thinking?

When Exxon and Chevron CEOs have come out and say that they have a hard time meeting future demands for the next 10 years, is anyone listening?

Oil demand is supposed to reach 100mbpd within next 5 years and 10 at the most. There is no infrastructure in place or planned within next 5 years to produce and process and ship all this oil. Why aren't the politicians calling for conservation?
That is the least I expect them to say.

Where is all this additional oil coming from?

This isn't about PO. This is about if they don't believe in PO, then show us where the oil fields are, so people can start exploring.

Politicians surely have a blind spot when it comes to problems. I don't know what it is with them.

I tried to talk about inflation with a politician a while back. He kept telling me that there is only a mild inflation. He kept insisting that it was just my imagination that every friggin bill I have to pay nearly doubled in price in the past few years, because the statistics bureau calculated inflation to be just under 2 percent.

These people haven't got a clue what it must be like, living in the real world. They live in their ivory towers and everything which comes in their towers is meticulously screened on whether it might contain some traces of bad news. If so it is immediately rejected.

More than anything they are convinced that every problem will go away by collectively ignoring it.

Just close your eyes, hold hands with the person next to you and repeat after me," there's no such thing as an oil peak, everything will grow ad infinitum".

They have bigger things to deal with. Like steroid us in baseball, or if a brain dead person should be allowed to die

Why do people complain about high gas prices lead to government subsidizing more to lower gas prices in third world countries and US citizens don't complain and get their government to lower prices?

I'm 37 and I never met a government member in my life. I'm not sure they're real. They're like Smith in the matrix, only softwares... :-D

Sadly, I met like 10 US politicians and 20 foreign statesmen. And if you don't treat them like kings and queens, they act just like you and me, but once you look up to them, they act so differently. I can't believe politicians. They are so different one on one versus out in public.
