$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Chocky', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')nd i agree with with the other european poster here, for completely different reasons tho.
In a Hard crash Eurpoe wil survive where America will Balkanize.
Why is that? I think both are equallly likely to balkanize. After all, 'diversity' was at the heart of the balkans wars, and America and Europe have both got multiculturalism in spades

diversity...hmm
First one of the things you need to understand about the Balkans itself,is that the population there has more in common psychologicly with areas like Afghanistan,Sicily,The Appalachians, and the Caucasus, than they have with central Europe or north-east US.
They're clannish, have long memories, are prone to inter-tribal feuds and wars, and are a bit xenophobic and are also quite religious.also they have a "warrior" mindset that in the case of the Balkans neither Rome,Constantinople,Vienna,Venice,Istanbul,or Berlin managed to eradicate.
In fact i'll go so far as to say that the "conquest" of the Balkans by these Empires throughout the ages has only made them even more trigger-happy.
Now the difference between the Balkans and the rest of Europe is where 2000 years of wars have made the average european a bit hesitant towards trying that again (germans who don't want to fight, anyone?

),the Balkans have remained a hot blooded and tempered bunch.
wich was evidenced by the Balkan War, that absolutely shocked everybody in europe who thought that nobody would be so dumb as to start a war in europe again.
guess what?
For the Serbs,Croats, Bosniaks, and Montenegrins it was a return to bussiness as usual after 45 years of a strictly enforced cease-fire by Tito.
Now the rest of europe on the other hand seem to have learned it's lesson after, the 100 Years War,the 80 Years War,the 30 Years War,the Napoleonitic Wars,The Franco-Prussian War,WWI and last but not least WWII.
Like i said Germans not wanting to fight?
Dresden,Berlin,Auschwitz,Stalingrad,Verdun,the Somme...........there's your answer
This all leads me to believe that a balkanization of Europe will be less probable in Europe than in the US.
Now having said all this, why do I think that that the USA probably
willgo the Balkan route?
disclaimer
this is my (european)
VIEW on the USA,and it's people as a nation.
In no way is this meant as a commentary on any individual American, nor do i claim this to be anything other than a highly subjective POV.
First off:
You have how many privately owned firearms?Automatic firearms?Mil-spec weaponry?
The only place comparable in Europe would be....yep the balkans.
2:
Where did the word trigger-happy come from again?...hmmmm?
3:
US socio-economic infrastucture capable of mitigating the effects of a hard crash are either non-excistant or are being made so by your present administration.
4:
US society is extremely competitive.Dog eat Dog is not only normal,it is actively endorsed by a major part of the population. The concept of (national) solidarity is downright anathema to a majority of the American population.
5:
A major divide between rich and poor that's been growing larger due to what i said in point 4 and this divide has has been actively encouraged by this administration, and activ/passively by former administrations.
6:
Consumerism is more than significantly stronger in the US than it is in Europe.
7:
When was the last time time the US had a major war on its own soil?and how is it portrayed in the American subconcious? gloriously?as something that should be avoided at all costs?
sorry guys but "Don't tread on me" does not sound like a motto that's used by a peaceful nation.
All these factors and more combined lead me to believe that PO will more likely lead to an American "hard crash/Mad Max/Lucifers Hammer" scenario than a European one.
sorry
