NBC Delay of Beijing Opening Ceremony is sign of the times

Unread postby messageinabottle » Sat 09 Aug 2008, 12:56:40

It's a staggering fact that of the nearly 200 nations participating in the Beijing Olympics, the United States might be the only one where live coverage of the Opening Ceremony is unavailable.

NBC’s decision to delay broadcasting the opening ceremonies by 12 hours sent people across the country to their computers to poke holes in NBC’s technological wall — by finding newsfeeds on foreign broadcasters’ Web sites and by watching clips of the ceremonies on YouTube and other sites.

In response, NBC sent frantic requests to Web sites, asking them to take down the illicit clips and restrict authorized video to host countries.

Since NBC acquired the sole broadcast and media rights to the Beijing 2008 Olympics inside the USA Homeland it made sure it was illegal and impossible to watch the Opening Ceremony on time with the rest of the world.

The Amerikan FireWall seems much more effective than the "chinese greatfirewall' in that prominent sites such as Google and Youtube preemptively self censor and eradicate and terminate all traces of anything even remotely related to the Opening Ceremonies in Beijing. Witness Google's propriety Big Brother video recognition algorithms at work, automatically rejecting uploads of even brief clips of the Opening Ceremonies even before they have been uploaded and fully processed by the Tubes.

With the ISP and broadband companies such as Comcast targeting P2P and cutting off access to bittorrent ports and injecting false packets to prevent the transaction of certain "undesirable" content it will soon be impossible to skirt the system or find loopholes on the internets.

Yesterdays events goes to show the level of total expedience that the US Government can censor, blockage, and misinform its citizens at the click on a whim.

Today we truly live in a world where our Operating Systems assume we are thieves (DRM) and can lock down our personal property (PC) at the flip of a switch (Vista). We voluntarily divulge our most sacred secrets to the commercial version of the NSA masquerading as our savior (Google/Gmail/YouTube) and invest wholeheartedly by banking our entire life worth of data, information, work and memories in a "cloud" that will sooner rather than later stab us in the back and betray us and lock down and stripe away our identity just as the moment when we are the most venerable, a series of tubes propped up by the continuation of cheap and abundant oil, one that on its own will not last for too much longer regardless .. Our ISP blocking certain ports, sniffing our packets in the name of security, wiretapping our email correspondence to the Uncle (AT&T even let the NSA set up shop), and still with claims of UNLIMITED internet access plans that throttle back, choke, and spit back torrent P2p and any and all other "undesirable" traffic, injecting false packs and spoofing misinformation... Soon we will be a nation on lockdown, where not even information can cross the borders without inspection of the ISA (information Security Administration) as every bit that passes into and out of US Homeland will be inspected and filter and blocked as deemed necessary. Like what the Olympics ceremony in Beijing proved yesterday, the most prominent events could take place in the world on an international scene and it would be known to all globally except to the unbeknownith Amerikan masses locked down by their own governments intellectual property and informational "import/export" access control list. We the people indeed.

The ramifications of this level of totalitarianism goes far beyond any Olympics games for Chinese showcase.... When (not if) TSHTF and all hell breaks lose don't count on technology, Google and the Internets to save you or even to inform you of the impeding inevitable doom as we draw closer to Olduvai Gorge.

At the rate this disturbing trend is holding, when the collapse really starts going underway most Amerikans (informed or otherwise) will have no way of knowing what really is happening (and will be totally cutoff and isolated with ZERO communication with the "outside world") until the grid goes out and permanent blackouts take place and bitch slap us all back to the stone age.

It is not the opening ceremony that is important but the closing ceremony when the torch of civilization is passed from the West to the East and true emergency begins. When the Olympics end China will cut off the West and particularly America which will fall into its final black swan collapse. The internet is not needed to know this anymore. Anyone with eyes and the brains to see it knows it is coming. The lemmings living in denial that need the main stream media to tell them the crisis is here now are not worth saving. Let their ignorance be their tombs and save yourself.

It's very simple, do what we did in the old days with modems, just use high speed direct connections between computers. Share that way. If things go bad, that's how it may go. If there isn't enough energy to keep computers on a large scale running, communication will revert back to localized "hops" across networks.

When I ran a BBS 20 years ago, I got my email from California NO PROBLEM.

Setting up a decentralized network, while work, is completely doable. I imagine if we the people are going to do anything, we are going to have to build an underground internet using our own backbone lines. There might be some already doing that.

Btw, where is a link saying that nbc is holding shit back 12 hours

“In the age of Internet (almost) anywhere, why be tied to a TV?,” Ms. Johnson wrote in an e-mail message. Television networks “no longer have the same viewer monopoly they had 30 years ago — why don’t they see that?”
