FTW Updates 21-MAR-2005

Unread postby EnviroEngr » Mon 21 Mar 2005, 23:05:10

For our European Members:

Mike Says --

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')size=125]ATTENTION FTW SUBSCRIBERS IN THE UK - Mike Ruppert will be in Edinburgh and London next month.[/size]

FTW Publisher and author of "Crossing the Rubicon: The Decline of the American Empire at the End of the Age of Oil" will be in Edinburgh, Scotland on the 25th of April to cover - as a journalist -- a major conference on Peak Oil. Click here to view the conference literature (Adobe PDF format).

On the 26th, Mike will take a train to London (which he has also never visited properly) and remain there until May 1.

Mike's planned trip is solely at FTW expense for Mike to act as a journalist and see a bit of England and Scotland. At present there are no speaking engagements or public appearances scheduled or planned.

Mike and all of the FTW Staff are aware of and very grateful to all of our many UK subscribers and readers for their unwavering support and loyalty for these past 7 years; especially since 9/11. We are sending out this message because Mike would very much like to meet some of our British subscribers and we suspect that's a mutual feeling.

For any FTW UK readers who are interested or who might have suggestions on a possible public or semi-public appearance where Mike can meet and shake hands with you - we ask them to contact:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')ike Ruppert's unprofessional demeanor has damaged the subject of energy depletion. And my own journalistic reputation has been tarnished by association.

Among the views that I wish to distance myself from is Mike's recent contention that the US will collapse this year. Anyone who has studied the history of collapsing civilizations knows that it is highly unlikely to see an empire as powerful as the US collapse in a single year. Rome took centuries to collapse.

Also, I strongly disagree with recent assertions made by Mike Ruppert that hurricanes Katrina and Rita may be intentional. I know there are many people who believe our climate is being engineered using HAARP and chemtrails. I have pointed out the absurdity of such contentions in previous articles (see my series on global climate change at FTW).

And I disagree with his call for population control. Legislative population control is far too prone to abuse and has a marked tendency to become eugenics.

Beyond that, I have for a long time objected to Mike's tendency to sensationalize and even hyperbole topics, and his many less than professional claims. As examples of the latter, I can point to his bets regarding "Lucy, You've got a lot of explaining to do" and also concerning abiotic oil. In both cases, when people did step up to collect on the bets (by showing his use of false information in the case of Lucy, and producing a peer reviewed scientific article on abiotic oil in the other case), Mike changed the terms of his wager and refused payment. Making such wagers in the first place is extremely unprofessional and harms both good journalism and good science.
Peak oil = comet Kohoutek.

A good statement from Dale, thanks for posting it Killjoy. As for a country like the US collapsing in a year, it is most likely bunk. But still, you never know, do you? We are not the Roman Empire, more like the Roman Empire on steroids. Things could concievable happen very fast just like Ruppert thinks. The point is that we are in uncharted territory and no one really knows. Haven't we outsourced much of our manufacturing overseas? Just what keeps this country afloat, anyway? Recycling petrodollars and narcotics money? One thing about what Ruppert is saying that I believe to be true is his eye-witness accounts of drug corruption in government.

Agreed.

And there's much more interesting stuff there at that site.

However.... The old USSR collapsed pretty quickly when it became untenable.....
