Cloud9, It sounds to me that you are saying that the government will subsidize AG even more than it already does just to keep it going. How can they? The US government is already in debt and going further in debt in order to bail out other failing components of the economy. It cannot continue in this way, eventually there will be no one to borrow money from. If you are talking about a forced reallocation of fuel then by that time TS must surely have HF. Also, this is not just a North America issue, it is a global one. I expect that the third world will be / is the first to feel the pain.
My feeling is that there are many opinions of the impact of PO on a very complex system. Who knows who is right or not. All that I do know is that OIL is the glue that binds our current civilization together. Now that we have reached "peak glue" it's anybody's guess of how slow or fast we all become unstuck and what the impacts will be. But I think we all agree that it won't be good.
My only hope is that after the transition period has passed that humanity is able find a place where technology, sustainability, and the environment can co-exist. That humans recognize their place on this planet and reach a harmony with nature. I know it sounds like "Hippie talk" But we all want it to be that way, don't we?
