A Happy Break From Gloom & Doom

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Fri 01 Aug 2008, 21:43:34

I watched my daughter play her first professional beach volleyball games today. She and her partner are young rookies and they went up against none other than Holly McPeak and her partner. McPeak is a well known Olympian medalist and has won 1.4 million in career beach volleyball with 72 titles. My girl lost 21-9 and 21-10 but she was stoked anyways. She used to read about McPeak when she was in High School. I had a court side seat and saw McPeak make some astonishing plays like diving to her right, hitting the ball to the left where she couldn't even see and having it placed perfectly a foot above the net for her partner to spike. incredible athleticism.

Is she better than McPlateau?

Wonder if she's related to the McPeakes of Belfast, who introduced to the world the song Wild Mountain Thyme, recorded by the Byrds among others. Rockin' that your daughter got to go head to head with a real life talented celeb!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('dinopello', 'T')hat's very cool. You must be a very proud Daddy.
Of course I'm proud for her. She and her partner had to win a whole lot of games just to get a shot at this. Then they wind up playing the best. My girl has idolized McPeak for years and then she gets a chance to play her just before she retires. Very cool indeed.

Akers/Mcpeak finished third and won $9,500. My girl and her partner won $500. I'm sure she was more thrilled about playing who she played than about getting her share of $250, which she gets in weekend of tips at the upscale bar where she works. Onward and upwards! Make it to the top before the World explodes.

Thanks, and thanks to ludi too. btw, golem, reading Joseph Campbell and imagining you are some two bit stoned shaman is living vicariously and delusional too. Watching your own do well is just gladness.

I'll second that. We watched our oldest son lead his basketball team to win the city championships this year - he was the game MVP. It was very exciting, and we were all so proud of him - didn't want the moment to end.

Congrats to you and your daughter, PMS. I'm happy for that "moment" you all enjoyed.
