Attached to your vehicle?

Unread postby vampyregirl » Mon 04 Aug 2008, 04:36:34

A recent Shell survey in North America showed that 75% of Americans and Canadians say they have an emotional attachment to there vehicle. So how many here feel an emotional attachment to your vehicle?
As for me I am more attached to my motorcycle than my car.

No I'm not attached to my vehicle. It's just a tool to get me to where I need to go.

Nope, I love transportation but hate my car. It's not the car's fault, it's just that I don't want to spend one second or one dollar on an inanimate vehicle, but I have to ... I do love being able to go to the mountains or the ocean virtually at will.

One car is the same as another. I never look at them (mine or anyone else's) and I resent any time spent thinking about them. Would prefer a magic carpet!

Not really as far as an "I just love my car" thing. My husband is pretty attached to his motorcycle, though. I will say that the pickup truck we have used to belong to my dad before he died, so in that sense there is an attachment. I'll never sell it. It'll become a yard ornament when I can't afford to put gas in it  But as far as vehicles in general go, they're just a mode to get me from point A to point B.

I don't have a car, and I never will. I walk or take the bus everywhere I need to go, aside from the occasional late-night taxi home from clubbing, which I share with my friends :)

It's just a tool and I have absolutely no attachment to my car. I've got a motorcycle which I have a slight fondness for but no real attachment. I'm more attached to my bicycles.

The sad thing is that it's still the cheapest and easiest way to get to most of the places that I want to go.

Ah, the British sports vehicle. My brother had an MG of some form or another and I always thought it important to understand that when you drive a stylish British sprots car, you have to be willing to give up a few of things.

Safety, comfort, and handling

But they are fun.

When I was in high school I really did love my car. I still have fond memories of that old POS. Now, for me, my car is a pain in the ass most of the time (have to take it in to get inspected, pay taxes, insurance etc). In the city it's not worth much and finding a place to stash it while I go about my business can be a pain. It is great for taking trips to what's left of the wilderness (yes I see the irony) but otherwise I don't drive it much. It's kind of like my reciprocating saw - not used much but when I do it can be fun.

Cool, I have a 600 gixer. I'm thinking your husband is probably a Harley man? Myself i love ripping up the twisties and the occasional track day. I often use it as a commuter to weather permitting.

vampyregirl,
Well, yes he is a Harley man - but doesn't currently have a Harley :). He loves them, but settled for his current bike, a Honda Shadow Sabre 1100. It's a nice bike and he's happy with it (but I guarantee if he found a Harley he could afford, this one would be gone in a heartbeat!) :)
He rides his bike to work almost every day. His commute is only about 15 miles one way, but if it's not raining cats and dogs, he's on the bike.

I am, to my old SAAB 96 in the back yard. Not to my current Mazda 3. That's why I'm still hoping to one day convert the SAAB over to electric. Just don't know if I can rationalize the costs.
