Gasmon,

About 6 months ago I saw a short story about the Arges being upset because the Brits had started doing seismic work around the FI's. Hadn't heard anything since. Maybe in a year or two we'll see pics of a drill rig surrounded by Brit gunboats.

There has been some claim of large amounts of oil sitting under parts of northern Nevada, even our local news had a story once about it 2 years ago, they also pointed out that one of the most oil producing wells in American soil are located in northern Nevada near this site, how ever most of the land belongs to the goverment and have not sold this area off as of yet, just sitting there, some have claimed it might be as large as Sudia oil fields, but story died away and have not heard since...

Has anyone heard of this story or any reports about it's finding...

I can see the goverment sitting on some oil fields for the furture after peak oil has really taking hold, they would use this hidden oil for the military and top goverment officials, surly they would perpare for this, but no oil for the common folks.....
[ also don't you think other goverments are doing this as well ]

timmac,

There was an oil field drilled long ago in Nevada, maybe 25 years, that has produced a great amount of oil. I remember neither the amount nor name of the field. But operators have been trying to drill up another one since that time with no luck. I'm guessing that this is the source of that story. As far as the gov't sitting on a big oil field and hiding it: which gov't? The current politicians who are desperate to get votes from folks paying high gas prices? Are they going to wait till they're out of office and let the next set of politicians get the credit? Who knows for sure? I don't. But you can probably guess which way I would bet.

Major Oil Fields in the US could not be hidden from the public. The only way to prove a major oil field is to drill multiple wells.

Drilling companies are either public or private but not govt owned. And crews are always talking about operations no matter how many confidentiality agreements they are a part of.

Overseas maybe a different story.

In the US, everything to find oil is done by the public, such as seismic companies, drilling companies, service companies, etc... The employees are the public.

Some easy to pump high quality but small wells that have been left for later makes sense to me.
They could give marginal profit increases now or could be used for easy good profits at a later stage.
Especially at a time when most oil is sour/heavy to be able to release some light sweet would be a good deal.

This would of course not flood the market with cheap oil as for insance Lindsey Williams suggests.
It however seems more realistic to me than hiding giant fields.

It is very difficult to keep something big secret in the oil patch for long that's for sure. You can usually keep something secret for a short period, but something as big as what we are talking about here? Highly unlikely.

Thanks Dude...that was the play I was vaguely remembering. I actually knew a couple of guys in Houston who tried chasing it. Drove them nuts. One of them became so obsessed he moved his family to Nev. It seemed to have become his Lockness monster. Honest to God I heard years later he was running a transmission repair shop out there….times did get rough for a lot of us back then.

My vision of PO is where half the population dies off from overshoot (MonteQuest style) while the rumor mongers like Graeme is still alive spreading his "technology will save us" gospel.
