Sorry, I posted the wrong video. Trust me. It's rap... so that part sucks, but it is Richard dawkins rapping, so it is worth it.

For years I read Steve Gould's column "This View of Life" every month in Natural History Magazine. My view of evolutionary biology was heavily influenced by Gould. When Richard Dawkins published his "The Selfish Gene," it led me to George Williams and a much more mainstream take on evolution & ecology than Gould's polemics provided. My interest led me into grad school in an E & E program. I miss Steve Gould, even tho I at one time felt resentment of him for having mislead me. I miss the good-natured collegial sparring between Dawkins & Gould, even tho it was little more than a publicity stunt meant to sell both of their many books. Dawkins doesn't interest me much anymore, now that he doesn't do any science. I haven't read any of his latest anti-religion books. But back in the day, Gould's "Ever Since Darwin" & Dawkin's "Extended Phenotype" were good reads. It's easy to dismiss these guys as mere popularizers but there's something to be said for good popularizers. I miss the intellectual stimulation they once provided to the general population.
