At what point do you say F it?

Postby Commanding_Heights » Sat 12 Jul 2008, 10:07:03

I've seen a lot of posts on these boards where people seem to think survival at any cost is the answer. They seem to think survival is some sort of boy scout adventure. Would you really want to go on living locked in a bunker all alone? What happens if your family and friends are caught up in this mass die off that so many seem to yearn for? Don't get me wrong. I'll fight as hard as I can to protect everything near and dear to me but if I can't then to me it's not worth continuing.

So the question is, at what point do you say f**k it?

never say F it. Let the fear drive you to action. Read The Gift of Fear by Gavin De Becker. Excellent read and invaluable in these times.

Do your best to abandon the alone in a bunker mentality. Your odds of survival are directly related to the location and strength of your community. Put your efforts in to maximizing those 2 factors for yourself and those you hold dear.

Your family and friends are probably like mine- uninterested in any sort of serious action now. However when they do reach a point where they realize their current position is unworkable, having a fallback position for them may well save their lives.

f**k it ....and then what?
You can't erase what you know so it will continue affecting you whether you like it or not. Question is if you intend to try to do the best with this foreknowledge or decide upfront to be among the losers. In the latter case you will have to work harder han others to ignore news around you as you know whats going down...

That's a personal decision everyone must make for him- herself.

And no one wins, no one loses. Everyone breaks exactly even in life.

Whenever you feel the need to do so. And, there are going to be more and more opportunities to feel that need.

I don't have an alone in the bunker mentality. I have the exact opposite. Like I stated in my original post I wouldn't want to go on without my family and friends. That's the point I'd say F it and have no will to go on living.

I guess by everyones responses it's my fault I didn't clarify better what I was really asking. What I am asking is, what would you have to lose in your life to give up the will to live? Or would you never give up even if that meant being locked in a bunker all alone?

 Yes, that is something to bear in mind. There are a great many smart people here. There are not a great many (if any) pyschics here! I, too, occasionally forget that fact. :)
I am not giving up anything when I have a choice. And, I have no intention of rolling over and playing dead (unless, of course, it would be to trick the Mutant Zombie Hordes to pass by my carcass!)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')hat I am asking is, what would you have to lose in your life to give up the will to live?

Oh, like that bad.
That is one of those scenarios that I don't think we can plan for.
While at right mind, I like to think that I wouldn't give up on life no matter what. Simply because we don't know what is ahead of us. And die is something that we will do eventually anyway, so no need to rush.

Does that mean you value quantity of life over quality?

I'll pose the same question to you that I did to Ludi. Does that mean you value quantity of life over quality?

What said was that we don't know the future. So even if there are moments when everything seems dark, we don't know if this will last. Even people who lost everything can find happines again.
I therefore think it is impossible to say if it is quantity over quality as neither can be measured in advance.
But as I also mentioned, when you hit bottom it may be difficult to reason like this.

I'm not sure what my breaking point would be, but I know I don't want to live in a bunker alone and the whole Mad Max scenario doesn't appeal to me, either. I guess time will tell.

Giving up in any situation would be too easy for me, continuing is more of a challenge so you might as well try.
