is a Citroen C1.
69mpg.
98mph.
Expletive deleted. off a shovel acceleration.
£35 road tax PER YEAR.
Group 1 insurance and tyres a pittance.
I had to downshift to a car with better mpg than my last cone which was only 45mpg with tax at £130

here's a photo of one (mine be black)Image

so what have the rest of us got?

neither would it have been for me except $12 a gallon makes one pull in purse strings and 69mpg against 45mpg is a big incentive. I once has a 66 Mustang that did 17mpg so I understand why WE'RE IN THE POO

Probably the most efficient vehicle ever sold in the US for the driving/towing that I do and the conditions that I drive in.

2002 Volkswagen Golf TDI 90HP (stock) 45MPG+ lifetime

130HP since 77K miles. Now 115K miles.

I tow 10 times per year, 3 times over 1,300 lbs.

I envy you Kev. That same car sold in the U.S would probably get 45 MPG. Why can't they sell cars like that here is beyond me. That is a nice 2 seater that is practical for driving.

why would the same car only do 45mpg in the US?
and it's a 4 seater :)

Nice ride Kev. It looks like it has small back seats too, at least from the picture.

It's really not very nice of 'them' to keep cool little cars like yours from the North American public.

Had a look at the C1 and C2. Nice, but too small for my requirements. Have to get aging parents in back - needs the 4 doors and more knee room - and luggage in the boot occasionally. So I bought the Citroen C3 1.4 HDi diesel. I'm getting about 50mpg (US gallons) mixed urban/suburban. Haven't logged it on a motorway trip yet.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('eastbay', 'N')ice ride Kev. It looks like it has small back seats too, at least from the picture.

yup.. pretty small. Kids seats really, and a tiny boot. The first really practical car in the range for seating 4 adults is the C3. C1 is fine for 2 adults plus luggage, half on the rear seat half in the boot.

C1 seems most popular in the big cities in Europe Paris Milan etc. where its agility in traffic and ability to squeeze into the smaller parking places are important. Inner city runaround for the single person.

It seems that when a car company decides to sell a car in the US, they put in the biggest engines possible and tune them for performance, not economy.

Our cars are a 2000 Chevy Metro (40mpg ciy/50mpg highway), 1971 Honda N600 (65mpg?), and 1981 ComutaCar (100% electric, charged by PVs and windgenerator). And also a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup, 2 wheel drive, 4 cyl, 5spd, 23 to 29mpg.

My daily commuter is a Yamaha Zuma. 95 MPG with me on it. I looooooove my Zuma. It's tons of fun.

I only use my car to go to the store if I'm buying something really big.

This is what I drive:

Image

29 mpg with a tailwind in the city.

It holds four normal American adults.

It does a lot better on fuel than what I used to drive:

That thing drank a LOT of gas.

The best-selling car in history: the Toyota Corolla. 1996. Slightly rust-spotted beige, thus, also, the most anonymous car in history. 30mpg if I'm driving (somewhat less with my gal behind the wheel).

Also have a 93 V6 Dakota pickup. Used almost exclusively for towing, either my rototiller for spot jobs, or moving friends' furniture. Got barely over 2000 miles last year, probably less this year. Renting would almost make sense, except that I need it for 50 40-mile-days, not 10 200-mile-days.

KevO, how's she handle crap roads? Big holes? Ours roads here are bad and getting worse. I know the Tata Nano folks thought a *lot* about road conditions and suspension.

I just had a thought regarding the gas mileage--in England it would be in imperial gallons, which contain 5 quarts, compared to US gallons, with 4 quarts.

not quite that simple... a uk gallon is also 4 quarts - we have different quarts too!!
1 imperial gallon = 1.2009499 US gallons

That's so cute, but too small for us. I have a Honda FIT which gets a little over 40 mpg. It's tiny, but can haul a load of stuff with the seats down and enough headroom that my 6'8" DS can ride in the front seat without bumping his head. ^__^

I drive a Toyota Landcruiser. Mines white. Gets 14 mpg.

Also have an older FJ-40 Landcruiser (10 mpg) and a RAV-4 (25 mpg).

I need 4WD to get up the ridge to my house in the winter.

And I just bought a Honda Ruckus scooter (100 mpg) for the summer.

2008 Toyota Prius. As much as 60 US MPG (70 Imperial or 3.7L/100 KM). Normal driving about US 40-50 MPG. Lots of room inside for family and cargo.

I switched from my 1994 320 HP Dodge Stealth Twin-Turbo AWD/AWS (18-19 US MPG) 1.5 months ago.

Both cars were/are wonderful for their intended purposes IMO.
