BigTex's Words of Encouragement Corner

If you are in need of encouragement, hope or just a pat on the bottom, check in here and I will send you away feeling better.

Tell me why you are feeling down, hopeless, doomed or lost and I will tell you why you have reason to be optimistic and hopeful and how to regain those feelings for yourself.

As Reagan or Kudlow might say: "I've seen the manure, now show me the pony."

This is the place to see the pony.

Nice pony!

Man, what a timely thread idea. If ever we need encouragement, it's now. How are we gonna get out of this mess, Tex? Things are going to hell in a wheelbarrow. If anything, we super-doomers haven't been nearly as doomerish as we should. Everything we've been forecasting on this site is coming to pass. It's getting me down. I've really been in a funk lately, and it's all because of the way things are deteriorating so much more rapidly than anybody predicted.

Where's the light at the end of the tunnel, and how can it be anything but an oncoming train?

Maybe the light at the end of the tunnel could turn out to be a procto-scope.

Although I consider myself to be an optimist I welcome these changes. As a wise man once said, "bring them on!"

I can't wait to see what goes down next.

I respond better to smooth action than to smooth talking, Tex. Show me a grand slam, a 4 minute mile, a 1:59.9 marathon finish, and I'll rise out of this slump galvanized for real accomplishment! Let's see what you've got.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Zardoz', 'N')ice pony!

Man, what a timely thread idea. If ever we need encouragement, it's now. How are we gonna get out of this mess, Tex?

All of us are going to die one day. We've all known this since we were kids. The question is how to live well during our time on this earth. Living well involves meeting any challenge life may throw at you with the best attitude you can muster. The old sayings about the importance of attitude are equally applicable to end of the world scenarios. Whatever challenge we face, we are almost certain to have better outcomes if we approach the matter with a positive attitude. Even if you lose, you will know that you didn't leave anything in the locker room. If you battled with a gloomy heart, you may always wonder how much different things would have been if you had been at your best.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')hings are going to hell in a wheelbarrow. If anything, we super-doomers haven't been nearly as doomerish as we should. Everything we've been forecasting on this site is coming to pass. It's getting me down. There is the old saying about the shot that is seen is the one that will miss. It's the sucker punch that you have to be wary of. We have seen events coming and some of them have now arrived. It's just a matter of using the benefit of our foresight to make appropriate adjustments going forward. We may win, we may lose, but we have valuable knowledge that equips us to deal with matters much more effectively than the man on the street. The gloom is just an interpretation of events. The events are not necessarily gloomy, they just ARE. We should deal with them in that manner without getting bogged down with the way we might LIKE them to be.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')here's the light at the end of the tunnel, and how can it be anything but an oncoming train?

The future is a figment of our imagination. To the extent that any projection of the future leads to present hopelessness, one should question the usefulness of it. The imagination usually makes unpleasant events seem worse than they actually turn out to be.

Is the peak oil future you imagine worse than the knowledge of your own personal death? Probably not. You learned to deal with the knowledge of your eventual death and find enjoyment in life. The same can be done for the awareness of peak oil related future events.

Don't let the doom that is external to you, both in the present and in the future, penetrate your inner world.

As John Milton said (and Jack reminded me lately): "The mind is its own place, and in itself, can make heaven of Hell, and a hell of Heaven."

You will be more effective if your mind is unencumbered by fear, dread, gloom, or hopelessness.

Remember, though, that crappy feeling is your CHOICE. No one imposed that feeling upon you.

You can interpret the world in any way you like. Fully internalizing that truth is a big part of having real freedom.

You see challenges and you prepare for them as best you can. When you have done what you can, rest, relax and be content.

Control the things you can control. Let the rest go. Feeling crappy is the result of not letting go of those things you can't control.

There is, however, a certain relaxed and content state of mind that we all crave. Experiencing this mental state is possible at any time, regardless of external events.

It's easy to forget this fact when the world seems to be tossing you around like a rag doll.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('cbxer55', 'W')hen I get to feeling down, I hop on my 1800 cc motorcycle and go for a ride, preferably in the am. This song usually comes to mind.

Morning Rider On The Road

Aint nothing the Bandit can say that will ease my mind.
But put up a good pic of Sally Fields from the same movie,
I might change my mind.

One stock of one of the largest and most important corporations in America, Fanny Mae, is down 80% in just one year.

Even though I expected a major financial crisis, this whole financial system is going down faster than poop out of that pony.

I'm not feeling better having predicted some of these doomerish things because, in addition to having to live with a failed economic system, us doomers haven't been doomerish enough it seems.
It's already over, now it's just a matter of adjusting.

The illusion is powerful as you know Dantes.

I certainly have appreciated your insights.
