Yep. That is indeed what we generally label those who insist on autonomy...

(Or rather, that's what those who insist on conformity generally label them...)


We can use George Washington paradigm all we want, but he killed a lot of people. V uses terrorist tactics, especially in regards to targeting buildings. He manipulates & tortures that girl to the until she agrees with his point view. He refuses to see to other people’s take on things. Is he not a terrorist?

Is there a reputable, scientific organization that was aware -- or should have been aware -- of PO decades ago and not only said nothing but spread distortions and half truths?

PO would have happened eventually no matter what. I don't blame anyone for PO. The world scientific community was screaming about global warming over a decade ago. No one was listening, but they did give a warning.

No dog barked while we were consuming the world's oil reserves and the end was in sight. Where was the scientific community when Carter was warning about energy shortages? Where was the watch dog when Reagan said it was morning in America and energy was cheap and plentiful? I don't remember any scientific organization that said be careful Mr. President, there may not be as much oil as we think.

I've said before I think the USGS bears the lion's share of responsibility for the present lack of PO awareness. A close second would be the AAPG which continues to blame high oil prices on speculation.

No. Everyone who has played a part in educating the past several generations of children into adults who believe that it is not only a necessity, but that it is our god-given right to be able to do these things, and especially to be able to do them in as exorbitantly wasteful a manner as we wish.

There was a time in this country when thrift, honest work and personal initiative were lauded, while conspicuous excess, sloth and convenience-seeking were disdained. Profiteering industrialists and their marketing henchmen have reversed that mindset amongst the populace, and the blame rests squarely on their shoulders. We are not to blame for being conditioned from the cradle up to believe that this is how life 'should' be and that even thinking about pursuing alternatives is to be frowned upon...

Hironegro in theory we might, but in the reality of our cultural milieu, actually doing so is not necessarily as simple as that.

It's kind of like learning a second language; while you might become relatively fluent in speaking it, if you haven't actually been raised in that language's culture, then there will be nuances and elements of idiom that you will likely never grasp fully. Your native language literally shapes the way in which you're even able to think about the world. For someone raised in a corporatocracy, any genuinely alternative lifestyle that was completely divested of any of its trappings would almost literally possess an entirely different 'language' of thought and feeling. One might become reasonably fluent in 'speaking' it, but one will likely never be able to completely 'think' in it to the same degree that someone born to it would be able to...
