Woah, slow down-- at least I saw it coming

Unread postby Mominator » Sat 28 Jun 2008, 13:19:13

For months (years, really) my nuclear family has been planning on moving with my mother to a more rural place and having a small family farm. We've been slowly doing things toward that goal.

I just learned about PO a couple of weeks ago and in my readings I became convinced that America is in a recession and is headed for a depression.

I started accelerating our planning for moving with my mom.
I started planning for my DH loosing his job.

I realized that by moving in with my mom more or less now and selling our house we would be able to save much more money than if we waited to fix some of the minor issues the house has.
I called a realtor. NOT 5 minutes after calling the realtor DH told me that he is being laid off!

I am so glad that we got to make the decision to move and were not blind-sided by the decision.

Another awakening! Welcome to reality. Mominator =). Just stay calm. Accelerate your planning. Discard any anxiety about guns you may have. And learn sustainability skills.

Thanks Ludi :)

Strangely, It's been serene around here. I feel this weird calm resolve. Don't get me wrong, I did a mini freak-out for about 2 hours, but ever since that it's all been sorta fun. I feel like it's just the little push we needed to go ahead and do what we *want*. Freedom. . .and all that.

No worries about guns here. My mom was a firearms instructor for correction officers in NY--she gave me my first rifle at the age of 8. I could still work on my skills though ;)

Sustainability skills: working on them. It's like learning a whole new life! Good thing it's been fun so far. :)

Isn't that the strangest feeling? I liken it to the shifting from one plane to another. Everything is the same, and yet so different.
Well, good luck with your family's transistion. You are already way ahead of so many others.

Hopefully you'll find a buyer for your home (and hopefully that buyer will be able to get a loan; and hopefully this will all happen before the real estate market further deteriorates; and before the credit crisis worsens ...... and before .......).

LOL, OK, thanks for that  This is my one source of stress. Will I be able to sell our house and our muscle car? I think enough people are clueless that the muscle car will go. . .but the house?

In order to try to be ahead of the game I'm going to sell it for as little as I can to just pay off everything. It's about 50K less than what we origionally anticipated. It's around the same price as a slightly larger, yet VERY run down forclosure house in my neighborhood, and it's lower than every other house in similar condition and size in the area.
As long as I pay off our debts. . .well, even if we don't--it's not like I plan on ever using credit again. I just don't want my car insurance & other mumbo jumbo affected by ruining my credit.
It would be nice to have some capital for the new property. Thank Goddess for my well prepared mom [smilie=love1.gif]
