I started reading in the spring of 2004 but frankly I thought it was a total load of bullshit... man was that a hard attitude adjustment.

I had read Ken Deffeyes' book "Hubbert's Peak" when it hit the shelves in '99. Read all of it in the bookstore (I remember, someone had put all the copies of it in the Travel section - that's how fringe the whole idea was back then).

There had been the stock market debacle on the heels of a sudden surge in oil prices in '99 also Then, when obvious oilmen Bush/Cheney were elected in 2000, it seemed to me related and I was waiting for the other show to drop.

Nothing much happened for a while but then, of course, there was 911 followed by Afghanistan and the whole bait-and-switch into Iraq where we are today. My, how attitudes toward the war have changed. No one here ever mentions anymore. Back in 2004, there were plenty of flag-waving Repuglicans around to beat their red, white and blue breasts about how the 'Merca would "kick ass and take names".

Ah, if only BiGG were around now to defend poor old Georgie W...

BiGG was banned for something or other - but I never understood how someone could stay banned from PO.com. Why don't they just get a new IP address and log back in under another user-name?

Well, ban evasion is a re-bannable offense. Most bans are temporary in nature (a 2-week cooling off period, for example). Few are permanent bans, though it does happen for the most serious offenses.

And most who try to evade the ban as you describe fall right back into the behavior that got them banned the first time very quickly. So, if someone has been banned and they're discovered with a new IP etc., they'll just be re-banned. Eventually they'll quit trying.

When I learned in '98 or '99 that Bush was running for office, my first reaction was...oil--5.00 per gallon, and I'll leave the country if he's elected. I was peak oil just before I heard he was going to run.

I'm pretty senior, both chronologically and to the PO member roster.

But why do we care? What is the purpose of this thread?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('DomusAlbion', 'W')hat is the purpose of this thread?

Actually roccman is my alter ego and the purpose here is to allow me to beat my frail gray chest.

Use the PO IP/location tracking feature available to we Mods and you'll see we post from the same computer.

If you had the really good Mod privileges you could actually take over the camera here and see we are the same person...

Cool!

Do those "really good Mod privileges" also allow me to give wedgies and noogies across the internet? I so want those. :-D
